It is generally considered to be an incidental finding without any symptoms unless posterior herniation causes nerve compression. However, recent findings have suggested limbus vertebra may be associated with a specific gene and intervertebral disk degeneration. This article reports a case of a 40-year-old male patient with limbus vertebra, intervertebral disk degeneration, and low back pain, followed by a comprehensive literature review.","PeriodicalId":91298,"journal":{"name":"International journal of sports and exercise medicine","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78200692","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Subjects/Methods: A randomized, controlled clinical trial included 24 overweight women, 8 of whom consumed low-calorie diets containing an adequate carbohydrate content, while 16 consumed a low carbohydrate diet. The women regularly performed semi-supervised physical exercise (walking/running) for 12 weeks. Body composition (weight, abdominal and hip circumferences) and cardiometabolic parameters were analyzed. Data were analyzed using a two-way analysis of variance with the Bonferroni post-hoc test. A p value < 0.05 indicated statistical significance. Results: After 12 weeks, both groups exhibited significant reductions (p < 0.05) in body mass (A-CHO: 9.86%; L-CHO: 8.48%), abdominal (A-CHO: 7.48%; L-CHO: 8.05%) and hip circumferences, fat percentage (A-CHO: 7.32%; L-CHO: 9.15%), and liver function marker levels (AST: A-CHO: 12.24%; L-CHO: 11.26%; ALT: A-CHO: 6.48%; L-CHO: 11.93%), as well as improved lipid profiles. However, no differences were observed in the anthropometric and biochemical variables regarding to the carbohydrate content (p > 0.05). Conclusion: The combination of a hypocaloric diets with jogging effectively promoted weight loss and improved cardiometabolic risk parameters, regardless of the carbohydrate content of the diet. It can provide important supports to sustainable development of “campus football” by studying injuries futsal players. In this study, the injured position and causes of futsal players were analyzed through questionnaire survey, comparison and literature review. It concludes that ankle is the most vulnerable position of futsal players to injuries, followed by waist, knee joint, head and face, hip and thigh successively. Waist is the most vulnerable position of goalkeeper, followed by hand, head and face, ankle and shoulder successively. Unreasonable body contact, inaccurate technical movement and poor physical strength preparation are main causes of injuries, which have some similarities and differences with causes of injuries in standard football games. Finally, different prevention measures were proposed to different injury positions.","PeriodicalId":91298,"journal":{"name":"International journal of sports and exercise medicine","volume":"56 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80099125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: The 12 Repetition Maximum (12-RM) load on the angled leg press was determined for 16 moderately trained males (26.8 ± 6.2 yrs, 177.7 ± 6.3 cm, 77.0 ± 10.9 kg). To ensure safe, proper form across all sets, the 12-RM was tested at the slow cadence, and only 10 repetitions/set were performed during trials. Three successive sets of 10 repetitions, with three minutes rest between sets, were completed at each cadence, requiring 60 seconds to complete each slow set, 20 seconds to complete each fast set. Continuous HR was assessed by electrocardiogram from rest throughout exercise, and to recovery. Repeated-Measures (RM) ANOVA was applied, evaluating HR at each cadence for the exercises performed. Bonferroni adjustment resulted in a statistical significance of p < 0.017. Results: Peak HR (slow) was 112.8 ± 12.2 (set 1), 115.6 ± 13.9 (set 2) and 119.1 ± 17.1 (set 3) bpm. Peak HR (fast) was 118.0 ± 10.5 (set 1), 116.0 ± 10.1 (set 2) and 116.8 ± 10.2 (set 3) bpm. Significant change occurred for the increase in peak HR at the slow cadence only, with the fast cadence showing no increase, as both conditions demonstrate different response patterns. Conclusion: When three sets of 10 repetitions are performed on the angled leg press at a slow cadence, a significant increase in peak HR occurs for the sets, while the fast cadence does not demonstrate an increase in peak HR values. The is presumed in part due to influences of the pressor response, and the longer work duration for the slow cadence of 60 seconds required per set of 10 repetitions, as compared with the shorter work duration of 20 seconds for 10 repetitions per set at the fast cadence. Practical applications: Acute variability of the peak HR response to resistance exercise is possible through program modification. For a traditional resistance exercise arrangement such as three sets of 10 repetitions, it is possible to limit elevations in peak HR across sets by using short duration sets with fast repetitions, which may benefit populations for whom cardiovascular workload may be of concern.","PeriodicalId":91298,"journal":{"name":"International journal of sports and exercise medicine","volume":"23 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87623581","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although this sport relies on the aerobic system, with the addition of shorter distances in competition settings it has led to interest in the importance of anaerobic capacity. The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between anaerobic power and endurance paddle race performance. Fifty (n = 50) endurance paddle athletes completed a 13-mile course either by kayak or canoe. A modified Wingate anaerobic power assessment protocol was conducted using a canoe or kayak paddling adaptor. Canoers completed one 30 second bout on their strong side followed by a 2-minute rest and a second 30 second bout on the opposing side. The kayakers performed one 30 second maximal bout given the bilateral nature of the stroke. Results revealed that anaerobic power for both left and right-side canoe strokes and kayak strokes was significantly correlated to endurance paddle race performance. In conclusion, it was determined that improvements in anaerobic power output may translate to increased efficiency in endurance paddle events.","PeriodicalId":91298,"journal":{"name":"International journal of sports and exercise medicine","volume":"10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81358140","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
