In India itself, more than one-third of the global malnourished children are existing. More than half of the children below 3 years are considered underweight among these. It is considered one of the most burning issues, and the common effect of malnutrition is in the form of late physical growth and intellectual development. The aim of this study was to assess the determinants of malnutrition among under-five children. STUDY DESIGN: This was a cross-sectional study with a key informant interview to identify the determinant factors of malnutrition. Four hundred and sixty children with their mothers were participated in the study. Odds ratio with a 95% confidence interval was used to identify the determinants of malnutrition among under-five children using multivariate logistic regression. RESULTS: Among 460 children, more than half of the children, 249 (54.13%), was malnourished. Of these 249 children, 142 were female, while 107 were male. Mother's age, religion, family size, and family income were significantly associated with malnutrition (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Malnutrition was higher in female children than male children, and a proper girl child care and educating the mothers regarding the importance of nutrition for their children help overcome the malnutrition problem in our locality.","PeriodicalId":9122,"journal":{"name":"BLDE University Journal of Health Sciences","volume":"218 1","pages":"106 - 112"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75620063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The presence of glomus tumors at sites other than fingertips is a very rare occurrence. We present a rare case of a 68-year-old male with a history of painful nodules over the interscapular region for the last 10 years which was excised and sent to our department of pathology. On gross examination, the lesion was 1 × 1 cm, nodular. Cut section was gray and brown with areas of hemorrhage seen. Histopathological examination revealed a circumscribed lesion in the dermis comprising small dilated vascular spaces surrounded by sheets and clusters of glomus cells having round–oval, bland nucleus with moderate-abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm. No areas with increased mitosis, no atypia, and no necrotic areas were seen. There was no area with ductal/mucin differentiation. Glomus tumor is very rare at extradigital sites and may be often missed clinically. However, the presence of the characteristic microscopic picture of perivascular sheets of bland, uniform glomus cells should help us arrive at the correct diagnosis and provide appropriate management to the patient.","PeriodicalId":9122,"journal":{"name":"BLDE University Journal of Health Sciences","volume":"31 1","pages":"197 - 199"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73319060","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The work of the handloom weaver was physically and mentally taxing. However, they do not take breaks and work nonstop. Short breaks are good for both physical work and job-related mental and cognitive stress. Therefore, a quick break is used as an intervention. METHODS: Participants in this study included 100 handloom weavers. A modified work–rest plan consists of 50 min of labor and 10 min of rest per hour. To order to calculate Brouha's index, recovery heart rate data were collected after work for 3 min while the participant was seated. Using the flicker-fusion frequency test, visual tiredness was assessed. RESULTS: A newly developed work–rest cycle lessens tiredness and becomes more effective over time. The newly created work–rest plan for the handloom weavers dramatically reduces perceived exertion and energy expenditure. CONCLUSION: The modified work–rest schedule decreased cardiovascular and mental stress. This work–rest schedule will therefore reduce fatigue and help with the work if it is used in this sector.","PeriodicalId":9122,"journal":{"name":"BLDE University Journal of Health Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"155 - 159"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82310067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this systematic review, a comparative assessment of different nucleic acid-based antirabies vaccination tools developed using different methods, in different countries, was undertaken. The comprehensive search was done in three databases. Articles were carefully selected based on predetermined inclusion/exclusion criteria and eight articles were included in this systematic review. Studies have demonstrated dose-dependent immune response following intramuscular vaccination and improved immune response following intranasal vaccination and gene-gun delivery method. Nucleic acid-based antirabies vaccines have shown higher immune response and protective levels in Bagg's albino (BALB/c) mouse models than cell culture-derived vaccines. It has been demonstrated that the route/method of administration and the vaccine formulation could be improved in various ways to enhance immune response following vaccination. These new vaccine tools and their implementation in pre- and postexposure prophylaxis could be further evaluated and to be adopted by rabies endemic countries.","PeriodicalId":9122,"journal":{"name":"BLDE University Journal of Health Sciences","volume":"59 1","pages":"1 - 12"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84856234","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Vitamin B12 is one of the major water-soluble vitamins found among the animal products such as the dairy products, eggs, and red meat. Folate is an essential nutrient which is naturally present among the foods in a stable reduced form and is present in an oxidized form (folic acid) among the fortified foods and dietary supplements. Homocysteine and methylmalonic acid levels in the blood are raised when Vitamin B12 is deficient, both of them can serve as indicators of deficiency of Vitamin B12 biochemical. Excess folate, primarily from the increased intake of folic acid, can interfere with the metabolism of cobalamin and exacerbates the Vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms, according to previous studies. Furthermore, the influence of supplementing Vitamin B12 and folate remains a largely uncharted field, hence, a lot more observational studies and randomized controlled trials are required to determine how vitamin supplementation affects each and every component of MS.","PeriodicalId":9122,"journal":{"name":"BLDE University Journal of Health Sciences","volume":"7 1","pages":"200 - 202"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87284101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the study is to determine the acceptability and satisfaction of the medication event reminder monitoring system (MERMS) by the patients and to assess various determinants among adherent and nonadherent groups. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A facility-based cross-sectional study was undertaken among the drug-sensitive TB patients of a TB unit where the MERMS box was issued to them on a pilot basis under the national program. These were assessed on a validated scale of 11 questions graded on a 5-point Likert scale for the usability of MERMS box and various determinants among adherent and Nnonadherent groups were assessed. RESULTS: A total of 126 patients were included in our study with high satisfaction scores for the usage of the MERMS box. There was 89.7% adherence and 10.3% Nonadherence with this and the determinants found to be statistically significant were the large distance of the center from home, loss of daily wages, any of the family problems, Having insufficient money for performing regular investigations, fear of side effects of drugs, social stigma attached, travel cost, long waiting periods at DOTS center, and any toxicity of drugs being experienced. CONCLUSIONS: The usability of MERMS can be enhanced by bringing changes in the font of printed labels and operation instructions and the removal of social stigma can improve adherence.","PeriodicalId":9122,"journal":{"name":"BLDE University Journal of Health Sciences","volume":"34 1","pages":"42 - 46"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87504183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
