{"title":"THE DEPRESSIVE CONCEPTS OF HAPPINESS","authors":"Halyna Handzilevska, Uliana Nikitchuk","doi":"10.15330/PS.9.1.64-71","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.15330/PS.9.1.64-71","url":null,"abstract":"In this article, the authors examine the problem of experiencing difficult life situations by persons with subclinical symptoms of depression through the prism of their mental representation of the problem of reaching happiness. The study empirically grounds on following: qualitative research (multiple case study) of subclinical depression; quantitative research of adaptation of Ukrainian migrants with high rates of depressiveness. On the basis of a multiple case study it is deduced that depressive concepts of happiness tend to be: 1) rigidly concentrated on the only one aspect of life; 2) over-demanding (especially toward others) to that extent that happiness seems unreachable; 3) over-evaluated, that can increase frustration and anxiety; 4) accompanied by expectation that happiness should occur itself. Impatience and whimpering are defined as peculiar feature of how a person with subclinical symptoms of depression passes through actual obstacles in reaching happiness. Considering these features, the depressive concepts of happiness appears to be quite infantile, therefore researches analyze the problems of persons with subclinical depression through the prism of the concepts of psychological infantilism. Specific presuppositions that underlie infantile expectations which had been explored during the study are revealed in the article. The quantitative study of migrants’ adaptation supports the theses of the childish nature of the depressive concept of happiness. Childhood scenario decisions and internalized parents’ drivers that are significantly related to depressiveness are given. The study highlights the role of biases and childhood decisions in irrational thinking of persons with subclinical symptoms of depression. These findings can contribute to understanding the problem of their social development. \u0000У цій статті автори розглядають проблему переживання складних життєвих ситуацій особами з субклінічними симптомами депресії крізь призму їх ментальної репрезентації проблеми досягнення щастя. Дослідження емпірично ґрунтується на якісному дослідженні (множинний аналіз випадку) субклінічної депресії та кількісному дослідженні адаптації українських мігрантів з високим рівнем депресивності. На підставі результатів аналізу випадків виснувано, що депресивна концепція щастя характеризується: 1) ри­гідною зосередженістю на єдиному аспекті життя; 2) надвимогами (особливо щодо інших) до такої міри, що щастя здається недосяжним; 3) надцінністю для суб’єкта, що може підвищувати фрустрацію й три­вогу; 4) очікуваннями, що щастя має статися само собою. Нетерплячість і капризування виокремлено як властиві ознаки переживання людиною із субклінічною депресією актуальних перешкод у реалізації бажа­ного. З огляду на ці ознаки, депресивна концепція щастя виступає як доволі інфантильна, тож дослід­ниці аналізують проблеми людей з субклінічною депресією також крізь призму концепцій психологічного інфан­тилізму. Історичний поступ психологічної науки закономірно приводить до телеологічно детермінованого холістичного пред­ставлення людини як цілісної тілесно-душевно-духовної реальності, носія і суб’єкта духовних прагнень і здатностей. Таке бачення притаманне інноваційному для сучасної вітчизняної психології напрямку – хрис­тиянсько-орієнтованому, заснованому на експозиції християнської персонології на постнекласичний тип раціональності.Суб’єктність є складним багаторівневим феноменом, функціональний зміст якого визначає онтологічна доцільність існування людини як триєдності тіла-душі-духа. У трансцендентально-онтоло­гічній природі людини, її сакраментальності наявний не лише ціннісний прообраз – «Взірець» її розвитку, що телеологічно його спонукає, але й міститься необхідна конфігурація задатків, які забез­печують реальну спроможність суб’єкта до духовного самоздійснення (реалізація каузальної причинності). Суб’єктність ре­презентує божественне і людське в їх синергійному союзі щодо ініціації, актуалізації та реалізації жит­тєвої активності на трьох рівнях: духа – реалізація свободи вибору, ціннісне самовизначення і цілепо­кла­дання; душі – знаходження особистісних сенсів шляхом переживання; рівень тіла – реалізація поведінкових програм у конкретних видах предметної діяльності. Водночас душевна іпостась визначає як пріоритетний інтуїтивний спосіб актуалізації суб’єктності, а духовна задає спосіб її реалізації через вчинок. Бо­жественний Дух визначає творчий характер життєвої активності людини як Любов (з Любові, у Любові, для Любові), надаючи людині онтологічного статусу співтворця. Любов як смислова диспозиція моти­вованої духом особистості виступає провідним чинником Богонатхненної вчинкової активності \u0000The article presents the Christian-oriented paradigm of subjectivity of man. The historical act of the psychology will  legally lead  to the teleologically determined holistic presentation of the person as a physical-soul-spiritual reality and as  a carrier and a subject of the spiritual aspirations and abilities. This is also a paradigm of the modern social psychology, Christian-oriented, based on the exposition of the Christian personality on the post-nonclassical type of rationality. Subjectivity is seen as a complex multipsychospiritual phenomenon, the functional content of which determines the feasibility of ontological existence of human as body-mind-spirit. The precious prototype, the \"Sample\" of its development that teleologically induces it, but also contains the necessary configuration of the instincts that provide the actual ability of the subject to spiritual self-realization (the implementation causal causality) is not only in the transcendental and ontological nature of man. {"title":"Assessing personality across 13 countries using the California Adult Q-set","authors":"Esther Hanes","doi":"10.21827/ijpp.5.35039","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.21827/ijpp.5.35039","url":null,"abstract":"The current project measures personality across cultures, for the first time using a forced-choice (or idiographic) assessment instrument - the California Adult Q-set (CAQ). Correlations among the average personality profiles across 13 countries (total N = 2,370) ranged from r = .69 to r = .98. The most similar averaged personality profiles were between USA/Canada; the least similar were South Korea/Russia/Poland and China/Russia. The Czech Republic had the most homogeneous personality descriptions and South Korea had the least. In further analyses, country differences in CAQ-derived Big Five scores were compared to results obtained from previous research using nomothetic Likert scales (i.e., the NEO; the BFI). {"title":"Personality & Earnings Lost: The Economic Costs of Work Cut Back Days Due to Physical and Mental Health.","authors":"Eileen K Graham,&nbsp;Daniel K Mroczek,&nbsp;Lorien Grey Elleman","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"<p><p>Personality traits have emerged as significant contributors to physical and mental health, as well as various economic outcomes including income. Few studies have explored whether personality is related to the frequency of days lost on the job due to physical or mental health issues, and the subsequent economic losses as a result. The current study bridged the health, economic, and personality variables to determine whether personality was associated with earnings lost due to work cut back days from poor physical or mental health. We found, both concurrently and over a 10 year follow up, that high neuroticism and low openness were associated with more earnings lost due to mental health, while low extraversion was associated with more earnings lost due to physical health.
