The cosmetic outcome of the scar as well as other problems associated with the wound closure technique were evaluated. The aesthetic outcome of the scars in the non skin clip closure study group was better (good in 90%), than those in the conventional metal clip skin closure group (good in 76.7%). The rate of superficial wound infection and post operative pain requiring increase in analgesic dosage were less in the study group as well. The cost of the metal clips plus the pain and anxiety of the patient at the removal of the clips were also eliminated in the study group. \u0000Wound closure following thyroidectomy omitting the conventional metal clip was associated with fewer problems. The specific objective was to highlight the pattern, distribution causative and contributory factors to head injury in our locality and to assess the outcome of treatment. The overall aim was to establish those epidemiological factors which may be targeted in the prevention and improvement of outcome. This paper is the preliminary report of this on-going study. \u0000The pattern and distribution of head injuries shows that a typical head injured patient in our locality is a male, aged between 21 and 30 years involved in a motorcycle related accident. Accidents frequently occured between 7 and 9pm and though 75% of patients arrived in hospital within 6 hours of injury, 17% of all cases died probably from suboptimal in-hospital care even in a tertiary centre. None of the patients used a protective helmet or restraining seatbelt. Prevention remains the key management option in these injuries. Between January 1991 and December 2000, 15802 deliveries were conducted, 572 were Ventouse deliveries, giving a Ventouse rate of 3.6%. The age range of the patients was 17-44 years, with a mean age of 28.2+ 5.5 years. The commonest indication for Ventouse delivery was prolonged second stage of labour 34.9% (195), followed by cephalopelvic disproportion in 10.6% (59), while the least indication was brow presentation in second stage of labour 1.3% (7). The maternal morbidity was mainly vaginal tear/laceration that occurred in 2.2% (12) of the patients. The success rate of Ventouse delivery was 91.6% (511). The corrected perinatal death rate was 9/1000 deliveries. Ventouse has a high success rate in prolonged second stage of labour, in first stage of labour and in fetal mal-positions. With the decline in the use of obstetric forceps and its teaching in most health institutions, ventouse becomes the instrument of first choice when assisted vaginal delivery is considered. The aim was to detect the main factors that contributed to the perforation of the appendix in these patients and assess the effectiveness of the treatment offered.\u0000In a ten year period, 1993 to 2002, 655 appendicectomies were recorded .Twenty-nine cases were confirmed as perforated appendicitis. There is still ignorance among our population, including the well educated, of features of acute appendicitis.
