Acoustic loads are one such load that is very critical to the launch vehicle at the time of ignition and take off. The amplitudes of acoustic loadings are generally very high and required to be diminished to save electronic components. Typically, one of the most common and efficient insulating materials is Melamine Foam (MF). This paper analyses the acoustic and environmental noise reduction using MF panels of variable thicknesses (25, 50, and 75 mm). Commercial FEA software is used to estimate the acoustic parameters, which are experimentally, validated using an impedance tube based on the transfer matrix method. The impedance tube can measure the normal incident sound absorption coefficient and transmission loss for the frequency range of 64 Hz to 6.2 kHz. A conventional, two-microphone impedance tube is connected to a sample holder downstream of the first microphone pair and a section downstream of the sample holder that accommodates a second pair of microphones. Two separate arrangements of impedance tubes are used to measure the absorption coefficient and transmission loss. The FEA and experimental results are compared and found in good agreements. Furthermore, the optimized insulation foam thickness is obtained based on required acoustic parameters.","PeriodicalId":90573,"journal":{"name":"Journal of applied mechanical engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69996936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pin–on-plate reciprocating wear apparatus was used. The AET has capability of predicting an impending failure much ahead of time of its occurrence. The AE measurements are made with the help of a tape recorder system into isolated chamber from external noises. The results show that 2024-T4 alloy has higher wear resistance with three distinct stages of wear rate in comparison with 2024 alloy under the working conditions. The AE data analysis showed a clear evident that the Events Rate and Peak Amplitude value display a clear-cut distinction between the wear rate stages in dry and lubricated conditions of both alloys giving a good agreement with the weighing method results.","PeriodicalId":90573,"journal":{"name":"Journal of applied mechanical engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69996872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For developing nations like Ethiopia, importing combine harvester is too expensive and not affordable for small scale farmers. The aim of this project was to design and model cereal crop reaper machine that is easily available and operated by small scale farm holders. The designed reaper was manually guided and powered with diesel engine for cutting cereal crop stems. With the help of pulley-belt arrangement, drive power is transmitted from engine to gear mounted shafts. A bevel gear arrangement is used to transmit motion at certain angle. One end of bevel gear shaft was connected to slider crank mechanism which converts rotary motion of shaft into reciprocating motion of cutter bar. Reciprocating cutter bar slides over fixed bar and created scissoring action between cutter blades which are responsible for cutting the crop stems. Integrating mechanism consist of flat belt with collecting lugged plates bolted on it. This machine can give a cost saving of 99.89 USD/hectare. This means one farmer can save 99.89 USD/hectare compared to manual harvesting machine.","PeriodicalId":90573,"journal":{"name":"Journal of applied mechanical engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69986871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
