Suicide in the USA is highest among those within this age range, and attributed to social isolation, loss of independence, despair, physical and mental impairment. Externally, an invisible barrier exists between senior living communities, keeping non-residents away. Enriching life with meaningful tasks and community involvement provide value and a healthier lifestyle to residents within that community. Depression could be mitigated with programs catered to physical and mental activities that stimulate the mind, leading to decreases in sedentary lifestyles. Alleviating depression in seniors will help them adapt to life and preserve their sense of belonging within the community. The impact of the research is to provide potential solutions in terms of activities which can create a sense of usefulness and social connectivity to the elderly.","PeriodicalId":90540,"journal":{"name":"International journal of behavioural & healthcare research","volume":"8 1","pages":"42"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66661586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various factors influence the functioning of health institutions within war zones. The major constraints are represented by a lack of skilled personnel, an improper infrastructure, the absence of the private medical equipment sector and a lack of medical consumables. Subsequently, healthcare facilities are forced to reduce their service and to focus on the most urgent medical needs. This study discusses the minimum requirements for: the hospital infrastructure, the security of healthcare facilities, medical departments and personnel. This article highlights that even when a healthcare facility is operating on reduced capacity, skilled personnel is essential. Moreover, electricity, water and a safe environment is crucial to keep the healthcare facility operating. In some cases, a new established field hospital is more efficient compared to an inadequate operating facility.","PeriodicalId":90540,"journal":{"name":"International journal of behavioural & healthcare research","volume":"6 1","pages":"1"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66661640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dementia (major NCD) is one of the factors that cause disability in late-life. Due to various neurological conditions, types and cognitive factors, the diagnosis of any NCD has become a difficult and complex task to achieve. Thus, diagnoses of NCD require a combination of an extensive cognitive assessment and the screening of the possible causes along with EEG analysis which provides promising complete neurological examination. EEG based diagnosis approach is economical, portable and can be used to diagnose mass population. Apart from this, EEG analysis also helps to investigate the brain activation during the cognitive task performance. This paper reviews several linear and non-linear signal processing methods for the diagnosis of NCD and their cause like Alzheimer's disease (AD), frontotemporal disease and vascular dementia (VaD) etc.","PeriodicalId":90540,"journal":{"name":"International journal of behavioural & healthcare research","volume":"6 1","pages":"15"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66661661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, a recent report indicated that there is little evidence of leading Indian researchers working on healthcare quality and related areas in healthcare sector. Moreover, the perception is that whatever research has been conducted is fragmented, very specific in nature and specialised. In light of this, the purpose of the present study is to develop an extensive and systematic literature search on healthcare quality, SQ, development and application of SERVQUAL and to understand the link between SQ and patient satisfaction. The paper further identifies the healthcare quality dimensions and models for HCEs. Finally, it was concluded that further research is necessary to develop conceptual underpinning and analytical models based on quantitative studies. The outcome of this study will help Indian healthcare practitioners and quality experts to take initiative in implementing hospital SQ dimensions in their organisations as well as may propose a framework/model for enhanced performance.","PeriodicalId":90540,"journal":{"name":"International journal of behavioural & healthcare research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/ijbhr.2015.071465","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66661575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper guides students and novice researchers on objective critical thinking and writing for assignment excellence and publication acceptance respectively, and helps clinicians evaluate healthcare and behavioural literature thus taking better decisions for the patient. The article touches the hierarchy of study designs and the critical appraisal principles of causality, reliability, validity and execution including statistical issues. Moreover, it looks at other aspects like title appropriateness, standardised English writing style, data presentation, referencing quality and extraneous factors such as competing interests. Objective measurements should also be critically evaluated. Even a review paper of other peer-reviewed reviews has to be critically evaluated. Creating debate between authors is recommended. Triangulation and reflexivity are important for qualitative research rigour. Issues of originality versus repeatability and ethical aspects including risk assessment and sample size justification are appropriately covered. Critical evaluation questions what the research has contributed to society. An element of scepticism is essential for critical thinking. Critical analysis should first be applied to one's own work by going through a set of ask-yourself-questions.","PeriodicalId":90540,"journal":{"name":"International journal of behavioural & healthcare research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/ijbhr.2015.071480","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66661366","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These tax-advantaged savings offer a financial hedge against future healthcare costs, but may have implications for individuals' choice about healthy behaviour to avoid the risk of future illnesses. We compare tax-advantaged savings to non-tax advantaged savings focusing on the impact on healthy behaviour. We find tax-advantaged savings encourages savings as a hedge against future healthcare costs, but does so at the expense of healthy behaviour, potentially increasing overall societal healthcare costs.","PeriodicalId":90540,"journal":{"name":"International journal of behavioural & healthcare research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/ijbhr.2015.071467","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66661260","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a consequence, research exploring determinants of nurses' OCBs has increased dramatically. Little attention, however, has been paid to how nurses' manifest needs affect their OCBs. Accordingly, in this study, we empirically examine the impact of the need for achievement, need for affiliation, and need for autonomy on nurses' OCBs. Two hundred and eleven nurses are analysed using multiple regression. Results illustrate that the need for achievement is a significant predictor of a nurse's OCB. Findings of this study may help healthcare administrators establish a work environment where nurses' OCBs are encouraged.","PeriodicalId":90540,"journal":{"name":"International journal of behavioural & healthcare research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/ijbhr.2015.071475","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66661325","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was investigated whether subgroups of patients in vocationally oriented medical rehabilitation (VOMR) can be distinguished regarding their degree of perceived participatory involvement and whether different degrees of perceived involvement during the consultation were associated with the motivation to deal with work-related problems and the satisfaction with treatment decision-making, the doctor-patient interaction and overall treatment. Data from a previous study including 283 orthopaedic rehabilitation patients were re-analysed. Latent class analysis yielded four types of perceived involvement (shared decision-making; patient-centred interaction with vs. without involvement in decision-making; no involvement). Higher involvement was associated with higher satisfaction, but not with the motivation to deal with work-related issues. Perceived involvement can be regarded as a helpful tool in promoting patient-centeredness in work-related medical rehabilitation. The lack of associations with motivation necessitates further research.","PeriodicalId":90540,"journal":{"name":"International journal of behavioural & healthcare research","volume":"85 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/ijbhr.2015.071466","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66661669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In departing from the medical tourism literature, this paper consists of a critical literature review organised to establish what is known about international medical travel, hence, contributing towards the development of a more rigorous conceptual framework for this type of travel. Based on secondary data, tourism connotations are distinguished from international travel for medical purposes, since the design and implementation of effective marketing strategies aimed at the medical tourism market are challenged by a lack of understanding of the drivers and impediments that influence patients' decisions when demand is for medical treatment. Attention is given to the definition of medical travel, its product, consumer and destination success factors. Consideration of the nature of the medical travel product suggests that relational strategies may be justified. Recommendations are made for further research.","PeriodicalId":90540,"journal":{"name":"International journal of behavioural & healthcare research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/ijbhr.2015.071476","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66661362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this connection, the objectives of the paper are to explore the reasons for purchasing private health insurance and to identify the determinants of private health insurance in East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. Simple ratios and logistic regression techniques have been employed for analysis. The study found that being sure of getting into hospital quickly, fear of large medical or hospital bills are very important among the reasons for purchasing private health insurance in the district. The determinant analysis suggests that health insurance purchase decision has been determined by annual income, annual health expenditure, household size and gender rather than age, education, marital status, smoking, alcohol use and environmental rating. Economic development programs should help enhance income to reach a higher standard of living and in doing so boosts their economic access to health insurance policies and the relevant health services. This implies that health insurance policies should be completed with the development strategies of the government so that people have better purchasing power and hence access to the healthcare services.","PeriodicalId":90540,"journal":{"name":"International journal of behavioural & healthcare research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/ijbhr.2015.071474","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66661319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
