While there have been individual tests of the above state-of-the-art control strategies by various agencies, no comprehensive effort has been made to evaluate and quantify the performance of each strategy, especially in terms of their applicability to both loops and video detection. This research reviews the advanced intersection control strategies developed to date. Due to the lack of field evaluation that can directly compare each control strategy, this study focused on the theoretical principles and implementation issues found from the literature. Further, the existing intersection control systems in three major cities in the U.S. and Canada are analyzed and their control algorithms are introduced. Finally, the current status of the video detection development is also reviewed.","PeriodicalId":90534,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Auditory-Visual Speech Processing","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78245686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Critical social theory suggests that reflection upon the roles of nurses in health care systems empowers nurses to be effective advocates. Nurse leaders, intent on advocating for health, can join other nurses in political action directed at changing existing health care practices. When no other solution is available to advocate for the health of vulnerable people, whistle-blowing may be employed as a last resort.","PeriodicalId":90534,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Auditory-Visual Speech Processing","volume":"34 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85555030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis shows that the English criminological definition of some offenses included in the European Sourcebook do not have a direct equivalent in the SCC, and vice versa. The main differences come from the classification and definition of property offenses in the SCC, which is the same used in several Latin American criminal codes. In particular, the Spanish legal concepts of fuerza and violencia are not synonymous with the English terms force and violence, which entails incompatibilities with concepts such as theft and burglary, and affects the distinction between crimes against persons and crimes against property (e.g., in the SCC, robbery is a crime against property instead of against persons). Some of these divergences have a direct impact on international comparisons of crime rates and may have gone unnoticed in many of the translations of English texts used in Criminology teaching.","PeriodicalId":90534,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Auditory-Visual Speech Processing","volume":"44 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79936178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
