The aim of this review was to explore the mechanism, evidence-base and effectiveness of NET in remediating PTSD symptoms. A literature search was carried out using Medline, PsycINFO, EMBASE and The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL). Reference lists of papers, review articles and grey literature were also hand searched. Findings were presented in a narrative review. The emerging research on NET presents it as a potentially effective and accessible treatment of PTSD symptoms though careful consideration of cultural issues must be made prior to and during application. Current research on NET provides evidence on its effectiveness especially with refugee populations for whom it was initially intended. It also has additional attractive characteristics such as its accessibility and cultural consideration. However methodological limitations of existing studies, in particular the small sample sizes, have to be noted.","PeriodicalId":90094,"journal":{"name":"Alternative & integrative medicine","volume":"7 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.4172/2327-5162.1000264","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70258941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The hypothesis was that verum acupuncture would demonst rate a significant positive impact on perceived stress as compared to sham acupuncture. This study included 111 participants with high self -r ported stress levels who either studied or worked at a large urban public university in the so uthwestern United States. 62 participants completed the study. Subjects were randomized into a verum acupuncture o r sham acupuncture group. Both groups received treatment once a week for 12 weeks. The Co hen’s Global Measure of Perceived Stress scale (PSS-14) was completed by each subject prior to treatment, at 6 weeks, at 12 weeks, and 6 weeks and 12 weeks post-treatment completion. While both verum and sham acupuncture patients show ed a substantial initial decrease in perceived stress scores, at 12 weeks post treatment verum acupuncture showed a significantly greater treatment effect than sham acupuncture. This study indicates that acupuncture may be succes sful in decreasing the perception of stress in students and staff at a large urban university and this effect persists for at least 3 months after th completion of treatment.","PeriodicalId":90094,"journal":{"name":"Alternative & integrative medicine","volume":"07 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70260825","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The individuals suffering from the premature ejaculation will reach orgasm before even the minimal penile or sexual stimulation, prior to or immediately after penetration. Premature ejaculation is the most prevalent male sexual dysfunction. It has detrimental effects on the relationship of the partners; it may cause mental distress, anxiety, and depression. Its prevalence rates run the gamut from 20% to 30%. The etiology of this problem is unknown, yet again there are some hypotheses in this regard including anxiety, penile hypersensitivity, and serotonin receptor dysfunction. The use of the Persian Medicine and herbal remedies for the treatment of diseases has a long historical background. Nutrition is the principal stepping stone of the treatment in the Persian Medicine; it proffers various food and remedy options for treating premature ejaculation. Therefore, the authors of the present paper aimed at taking into account the nutritional advice and suggestions of the Persian Medicine to ameliorate the aforementioned issue. In this review article, the seminal and original books of the Persian Medicine on the male sexual dysfunction have been thoroughly reviewed. A list of available, inexpensive and effective foods and medications which has been experienced for centuries was elicited. Due to the prevalence and the effects of the premature ejaculation on both marital relationships and subsequently fertility, constructing treatments like this list can be efficacious for to solving this problem.","PeriodicalId":90094,"journal":{"name":"Alternative & integrative medicine","volume":"7 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70258813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The techniques of Pranayam include practices that are performed in a slow or fast type. Aim: Investigate and correlate the impact of three months practice of fast and slow pranayam on cardiovascular autonomic function among healthy young volunteer. Materials and Methods: Total of 75 volunteer subjects were randomized into control group (Group1: n=25), fast pranayama group (Group 2: n=25) and slow pranayama group (Group 3: n=25). The pranayam practice (Slow Pranayam Group-Savitri, Pranav and Nadisodhana: Fast Pranayam Group-Bhastrika, Kukkuriya and Kapalabhati, were practiced 30 minutes per day, 3 days per week for 3 months either slow or fast pranayam by a certified yoga teacher. The recording of Short term Heart Rate Variability (HRV) was done at the before and after 3 months of study period. Result: The LF/HF ratio which is the best indicator of Sympathovagal balance was reduced significantly in slow pranayam group showing a shifting of balance towards parasympathetic tone. The RMSSD which is considered to be the best predictor of parasympathetic tone significantly increased in slow pranayam group. A significant increase (HF) nu and decrease (LF) nu was noted in slow and fast pranayam respectively after yoga intervention. Conclusion: Results of our study demonstrates that slow and fast pranayam practices are more effective to maintain sympatho-vagal balance by modulating sympathetic and parasympathetic division of autonomic nervous system.","PeriodicalId":90094,"journal":{"name":"Alternative & integrative medicine","volume":"07 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.4172/2327-5162.1000265","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70258951","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Seemingly spontaneously she subsequently fell into a deep depression. She had labs taken on what could be happening. Was it a unique parasite contracted from her doctor’s visit? Was it Lyme’s disease? Was there something latent in her psyche that suffered after turning 40? The scramble to find the cause ensued. But, nothing showed up on her lab results. She was given a pharmaceutical medicine to help with depression and immediately had a terrible reaction to it. Jane said it felt like a stroke; all her limbs felt like they were on fire, as if her brain and body were burning and inflamed on the inside. She couldn’t sleep as she felt electrical-like sensations or “jolts” throughout her body every three minutes. This lasted six months!","PeriodicalId":90094,"journal":{"name":"Alternative & integrative medicine","volume":"07 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.4172/2327-5162.1000268","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70259055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Viral hepatitis is a very common problem in Bangladesh however management is problematic and expensive in conventional medicine. So Ayurvedic medicine is way to solve the problem. Methods: This study was carried out to investigate the hepatoprotective effect of Rohitakarista, a polyherbal formulation against carbon tetrachloride induced hepatotoxicity in rats. Male albino rats (Wistar strain) were divided into 4 groups namely groups I, II, III and IV. Group I served as normal control and received neither formulation nor carbon tetrachloride. Group II received CCl4 in dose of 1ml per kg body weight intraperitoneally. Group III and IV received CCl4 1ml per kg body weight intraperitoneally plus Silymarin, in dose 50 mg/kg orally and Rohitakarista 1ml per kg body weight of rat respectively. After 14 days, blood was obtained for the determination of serum bilirubin, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase. The histological study was also carried out. Result: The result showed that polyherbal formulation exhibited a significant hepatoprotective effect when compared with standard Silymarin. Conclusion: Therefore this study suggests that polyherbal formulation Rohitakarista may have hepatoprotective activity.","PeriodicalId":90094,"journal":{"name":"Alternative & integrative medicine","volume":"7 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.4172/2327-5162.1000262","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70258930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
