It is considered to be a tumor of intermediate malignancy because of its less aggressive course. The extremities are the most common site of involvement, followed by the trunk and head and neck. Case presentation: A 28-Year-old male presented with a right forearm mass that has been present for 2 years. There was no associated fever, no trauma, no night pain and no constitutional symptoms. On examination he had a forearm mass dorsally measuring 2x3 cm, firm, rounded, mobile with no skin changes and full range motion joint above and joint below. Lab and imaging studies done which showed soft tissue mass, multilobulated complex heterogeneous with increased vascularity. Patient underwent biopsy and surgical excision. Conclusion: Angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma is a neoplasm of intermediate biologic potential. Most often, the extremities are the most common site of involvement, followed by the trunk and head and neck of children and young adults. Its rarity may lead to misdiagnosis as either a reactive lesion or a benign or higher-grade tumor. This tumor has a relatively rare metastasis and its overall clinical outcome is excellent. It is clinically important to accurately diagnose this tumor so that wide local excision may be performed and patients may be appropriately monitored and followed up.","PeriodicalId":89904,"journal":{"name":"Cancer and clinical oncology","volume":"35 1","pages":"36"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70723484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Four of them have not been suspected before surgery; one was diagnosed preoperatively by core biopsy. Preoperative diagnosis is important for management. Awareness of cytologic features could help preoperative diagnosis when need of ruling out malignancy and coagulopathy make fine needle aspiration a choice. We herein demonstrate a new case of a 27 year old male with history of hepatocellular carcinoma, who presented with a 6 cm left supraclavicular mass. The fine needle aspiration was paucicellular; however, the bland ovoid to spindle cells with a whirling and luminal arrangement in the background of blood, fatty drops and degenerate muscle are suggestive of intramuscular angioma. The magnetic resonance imagines (MRI) demonstrate a T1 isointense and T2 hyperintense ill-defined lesion splaying anterior and mid scalene muscles with subtle vascular voids at periphery. These features in combination with cytology findings indicate intramuscular angioma. The pre-operative findings are correlated to the histologic picture of mixed capillaries and varying sized venues intervening with fatty tissue and atrophic muscle. Intraoperatively, the mass is adjacent to the brachial plexus rootlets, interdigitating with the scalene muscle and pushing the carotid sheath, left subclavicular artery and vein aside. Following embolization, the mass is resected with minimal bleeding. Our case suggests that scalene intramuscular angioma can be successfully managed by surgery after embolization; preoperative diagnosis rendered by cytologic features and imaging characters would aid the planning of surgery.","PeriodicalId":89904,"journal":{"name":"Cancer and clinical oncology","volume":"5 1","pages":"20"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.5539/CCO.V5N1P20","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70722963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Saudi Arabia, skin cancer ranked the 9 th most common cancer for both sexes. However, it is considered to be a preventable disease. WHO has proposed several preventive methods to avoid the damaging effects of excessive exposure to UV rays including; social education and adopting positive behavioral changes. The present study aimed to evaluate the level of knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of people in Riyadh city towards skin cancer. Results: The mean respondent's age was 35 years (12-65 years). Females represented about two-thirds of the 341 respondent. A statistically significant associations were detected between awareness about skin cancer with the age (Beta =0.03, p =0.047), educational level (Beta =0.63, p =0.042) and skin color (Beta =-2.14, p<0.001) being significant predictors for disease. Conclusions: To our knowledge, this was the first study to assess the level of knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding skin cancer in Saudi Arabia. Despite the limitations, the present study’s findings suggested that Saudis lack the sufficient knowledge to understand and assess the importance of skin cancer risk. In addition, the level of knowledge, attitude and behaviors are influenced by several factors as age, education level and skin color.","PeriodicalId":89904,"journal":{"name":"Cancer and clinical oncology","volume":"5 1","pages":"11"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.5539/CCO.V5N1P11","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70722403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are four main types of which the papillary and follicular types together account for >90%, followed by medullary cancers (3%-5%) and anaplastic carcinomas (<3%). For individuals who present with early stage disease of papillary and follicular cancers, there are no accurate markers to predict whether they will develop metastatic or recurrent disease. Our immediate goal is to molecularly differentiate follicular cancer subtypes for enhanced classification. Promoter methylation status of genes with reported associations in thyroid cancer (<i>CASP8, CDKN2A, DAPK1, ESR1, NIS, RASSF1</i> and <i>TIMP3</i>) were examined in a cohort of follicular thyroid cancers comprising of 26 Hurthle and 27 Classic subtypes utilizing quantitative methylation-specific PCR. <i>RASSF1</i> was differentially methylated in Classic tumor tissue compared to Hurthle (p<0.001). Methylation of <i>RASSF1</i> pointed to racial group differences between African Americans and Caucasian Americans (p=0.05). Extra thyroidal extension was found to be associated with <i>DAPK1</i> (p=0.014) and <i>ESR1</i> (p=0.036) methylation. Late stage disease was associated with older age (p<0.001) and methylation of <i>DAPK1</i> (p=0.034) and <i>ESR1</i> (p=0.035). Although benefits exist, risks are also present. The purpose of this study was to see what percentage of women with migraine headaches had a post-operative exacerbation. Study design: Records were examined for the diagnosis of migraine headaches as well as post-operative diagnosis of a headache. Records were also examined for age, estimated blood loss, total skin to skin operative time and body mass index. Results: Surgeries and records for 100 women were examined. Only 6% of women complained of post-operative headaches. However, 45% of women with history of migraines complained of post-operative headaches (p <0.001). Age was the only significant factor with women having post-operative headaches being significantly younger (p = 0.009). Conclusion: Post-operative headaches were more common in women with a pre-operative history of migraine headaches than in those without a history. In phase II studies of Antineoplaston A10 and AS2-1 injections (ANP), our investigators have reported objective responses and long-term survival in RGBM. Using a next-generation sequencing (NGS) based assay of 343 cancer-related genes and introns, comprehensive genomic profiling of tumor tissue obtained from a RGBM patient (who remains alive and well) was performed 11 years after diagnosis and permitted assignment of the patient’s RGBM to the classical subgroup. The most important genomic alterations included amplification of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A and 2B (CDKN2A/B), loss of phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) and telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) mutation. An analysis of the signaling networks and other targets of ANP therapy was recently performed and presented in this publication. Based on our findings, patients with classical RGBM have a reasonable possibility of responding to ANP therapy and experiencing long-term survival. It is proposed that this subgroup of RGBM patients be enrolled in a genomics-driven clinical trial of ANP therapy.","PeriodicalId":89904,"journal":{"name":"Cancer and clinical oncology","volume":"4 1","pages":"41"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.5539/CCO.V4N2P41","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70722620","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is an urgent need for new therapies for such patients. This phase II study evaluates efficacy and safety of a different form of cancer therapy that consists of antineoplastons A10 and AS2-1 (ANP). 27 patients, ages 19 to 57 years (median, 41) with recurrent AA were treated. All patients previously underwent surgery, all received radiation therapy, and 16 underwent chemotherapy. The patients received treatment with ANP administered daily every four hours (median dose of A10 6.0 g/kg/d and AS2-1 0.25 g/kg/d). All patients were included in efficacy and safety analysis. The median duration of ANP was 23.1 weeks. A complete response was documented in 7%, partial response in 11%, and stable disease in 22% of patients. Progression-free survival and overall survival at 12 months was 26% and 41% respectively. The only serious toxicity was Grade 3 reversible hypokalemia in 7% of patients. There was no chronic toxicity and there was a high quality of life.
