In this approach repeating sequences of GPP instructions are migrated to the RPU. The RPU resources are selected and organized off-line using execution trace information. The RPU core is composed of Functional Units (FUs) that correspond to single CPU instructions. The FUs are arranged in stages of mutually independent operations. The RPU can enable several stages in tandem, depending on the data dependencies. External data memory accesses are handled by a configurable dual-port cache. A prototype implementation of the architecture on a Spartan-6 FPGA was validated with 12 benchmarks and achieved an overall geometric mean speedup of 1.91x.","PeriodicalId":89464,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... The performance of parallel applications is not only limited by the CPU and the internal level of parallelism that the algorithms and data structures allow, but is also restricted by their memory characteristics. Altering the data structure for example to work with machine word-sized pointers required by atomic operations incurs additional cache misses, while a lock protecting a critical section not only consumes memory, but could also be responsible for increased memory traffic for cache-line invalidations when acquired or released. We investigate these effects and analyze the behavior of different parallelization mechanisms, both blocking and lock-free solutions, through the example of a basic data structure: a hash table.","PeriodicalId":89464,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... The scheduling analysis is proven via the Least Laxity First (LLF) policy and a set of independent tasks. In the same vein, we investigate in the present paper the applicability of the proposed approach for the Earliest Deadline First (EDF) policy to reduce the cost of preemption and we tackle the dependent tasks problem. Through an experiment, we present the capacity of our approach to detect the temporal faults in scheduling.","PeriodicalId":89464,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... We combine two ideas to achieve this: a set of segmented objects can be partitioned into perceptually similar object classes based on global and local features; and perceptually similar object classes can be used to assess the accuracy of image segmentation. These ideas are implemented by generating multiple segmentations of each image and then learning the object class by combining different segmentations to generate optimal segmentation. We demonstrate that the proposed method can be used as part of a new dietary assessment tool to automatically identify and locate the foods in a variety of food images captured during different user studies.</p>","PeriodicalId":89464,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... Then, we propose MPI5000, a transparent applicative layer between MPI and TCP, using proxies to improve the execution of MPI applications on a grid. Proxies aim at splitting TCP connections in order to detect losses faster and avoid to return in a slow-start phase after an idle time. Finally, we evaluate our layer executing the NAS Parallel Benchmarks on Grid5000, the French research grid, using MPICH2. The results show that our architecture reduces the number of idle timeout and of long-distance retransmissions for BT, SP and LU benchmarks. Using MPI5000, these applications can decrease their execution time by 35%, 28%, and, 15% respectively. A comparison with MPICH-G2 performances shows that our layer can even outperform a grid enabled MPI implementation.","PeriodicalId":89464,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... Conventional optical affine transform is implemented by dove prisms, mirrors, and zoom lens, with the shortage of experimental adjustment difficulties, low accuracy, poor flexibility and stability. A method for optical affine transform based on optical fiber bundle and MEMS (Micro-Electromechanical Systems) optical cross-connect is proposed. An arbitrary optical affine transform is realized by making use of the switch property of MEMS combined with optical fiber bundle. The shortcomings of traditional methods can be overcome effectively by this way. The optical affine transform can solve the bottle-neck problem of speed in realizing image iterated function systems. Comparison of optical experiment results and simulation results proves the superiority of this method.","PeriodicalId":89464,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ...
