The ant, although minute in size, has a potent sting that is annoying to agricultural workers in plantations and gardens, and it helps raise scale insect populations to pest densities. The ant is now abundant enough in New Caledonia to pose a threat to neighbouring agricultural countries by accidental introduction through commerce. As a possible control measure in plantations and gardens, baits containing minute amounts of mirex® should be investigated.","PeriodicalId":8614,"journal":{"name":"Australian Journal of Entomology","volume":"17 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1978-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1111/j.1440-6055.1978.tb02220.x","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"63039203","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Soldiers of K. aemulus have a shorter apical tooth than those of K. hilli. K. aemulus has a wider distribution than K. hilli and extends into the hotter, drier areas of the south‐west.
