It is classified as a mono-cropping area as it lacks irrigation facilities, essential for winter crops. In the last few years, the district experienced water stress due to the shortage of monsoon rainfall. We study long term seasonal and annual rainfall trend analyses for the Giridih district of Jharkhand in India using linear regression modelling. The last 100 years of data were taken for the study and were divided into two-time phases of 50 years each to analyse the changing pattern of rainfall trends. We found a decreasing trend in monsoon rainfall from 1 mm y-1 to 3 mm y-1 between the initial (1921-1971) and final (1972-2021) phase of the study period. Similarly, the return period of droughts (rainfall deficit years) has also reduced from 11 years to 5 years. The study has shown that the rainfall pattern has changed, with the winter months showing a decrease and the pre-monsoon months an increase in their relative contributions to the annual rainfalls. The study may help in the formulation of water resource conservation-oriented decision-making to cope-up with the rainfall uncertainties and meet the future water demand.","PeriodicalId":8553,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Water, Environment and Pollution","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2024-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141803483","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to determine heavy metals concentrations (Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn), pollution level, and their potential sources in the household dust of Ramadi City, Iraq. The dust was collected from 35 houses. The atomic absorption spectrophotometry method was used to measure concentrations of heavy metals in the dust. The following was the order of the heavy metal mean concentration: Zn > Ni > Cu > Pb > Cr > Cd. These metals’ mean concentrations are below background guidelines. The descending order of the EF values for the measured metals is as follows: Ni (6.35) > Cu (5.40) > Pb (1.53 > Cr (1.24) > Zn (1.14) > Cd (0.84). Results of the calculation of CF for metals measured in house dust in Ramadi City showed values of less than 1 (CF < 1 indicating a minimum contamination level. Based on the results of multivariate statistics (correlation matrix, cluster and principle components analysis), sources of Cr, Cu, Ni and Zn are indoor anthropogenic sources while the sources of Cd and Pb are outdoor anthropogenic.","PeriodicalId":8553,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Water, Environment and Pollution","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2024-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141266776","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hydrogels (decorative balls), called water-gel crystals, are widely used to treat wastewater pollution caused from toxic dyes. This study aims to remove Brilliant Green (BG), a toxic harmful pigment that can cause widespread biota and environmental damage, from the aqueous solution. Water-Gel Crystals efficiently eliminate BG in a short time frame. Furthermore, several variables, such as counting equilibrium time, pH solution, the concentration of BG dye and adsorbent dosage were investigated. The results of this study exhibited that the adsorption equilibrium increased as BG dye concentration increased at pH = 7 after an equilibrium time of 2h, with 0.1 g of water-gel crystals having the top adsorption efficiency at 95.567 mg/g. This water-gel crystals adsorbent is regarded as an effective candidate that can be utilised for water treatment because the re-usability method of produced beads can successfully complete four cycles, and the adsorbent maintained its ability to remove BG dye. The water-gel crystals are therefore excellent candidates to be used as potent BG dye adsorbents from aqueous solutions. The water-gel crystals regeneration and re-usability investigation for the removal of BG dye was completed in at least four cycles successfully. This indicates that the Water-Gel Crystals produced have a high adsorption value. The (ΔG) was negative for the adsorption processes, indicating that the process was spontaneous. In addition, (ΔH) was determined for the adsorption method utilising water-gel crystals at 5.146 KJ/mol. ΔH Positive indicates that the method is endothermic in the range of 15-35 °C, using water-gel crystals.","PeriodicalId":8553,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Water, Environment and Pollution","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2024-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141266880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it has an adverse effect on human bodies, such as skin irritation, leukemia, respiratory issues, mutagenicity, etc, when the chemical gets mixed in drinking and rainwater by the above routes. Therefore, there is a threat to the environment and society because of the presence of toluene in water bodies through industrial effluent. Henceforth, in this study, toluene is separated from water using the air gap membrane distillation (AGMD) process. The hydrophobic microporous poly-tetra- fluoro-ethylene has been employed for this purpose. Primarily, this work focussed on the study of operating parameters such as feed solution temperature and coolant temperature on the AGMD performance namely permeate flux and toluene selectivity. It was observed that the permeate flux increased exponentially from 2.07 kg/m2h to 9.23 kg/m2h, and 0.94 kg/m2h to 3.53 kg/m2h. However, it was found that the permeate flux decreased from 9.48 kg/m2h to 8.12 kg/m2h, and 3.78 kg/m2h to 2.42 kg/m2h on increasing the coolant temperature from 5°C to 25°C at 3 mm and 11 mm air gap, respectively. The membrane selectivity was found to be less than 1, which signifies the efficient toluene-water separation. In order to study the membrane performance in the long run, the permeate flux was estimated continuously till 60 h wherein the estimated flux was found to be almost constant. The membrane morphology before and after the 60 h experimental run was analysed using capture FE-SEM micrographs. The toluene concentration was estimated using a spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 264 nm.","PeriodicalId":8553,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Water, Environment and Pollution","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2024-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141265981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Humans have altered about 75% of the earth, reducing wildlife and nature’s space and harming the environment. Industrialisation, urbanisation, population growth, and globalisation have affected people and the environment. This study aims to investigate the environmental and sustainable development-focussed policies to address the pollution catastrophe. The study is a content analysis of prominent online newspaper media reports from January 1, 2020, to November 30, 2022, on legal, environmental, and sustainable issues to reduce pollution and advocate an Indian environmental and sustainable development policy. Since pollution and environmental degradation pose significant threat to humanity, ecosystems, and sustainable living are at risk. Despite national and international legislative and regulatory actions, the environment remains a significant issue. An environmental strategy that encourages sustainable development for future generations is the need of the times. It was found that there were legal and environmental offenses, the management of unscientific treatment procedures, the lack of fundamental education about existing court orders, and fatality-induced health problems. Therefore, India needs an environmental and sustainable development policy to limit environmental concerns’ fatality and protect the earth from pollution.","PeriodicalId":8553,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Water, Environment and Pollution","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2024-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141266466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A three-factorial field experiment was conducted according to the Complete Random Block Design, with three replications during the spring season of 2018 to study the humic acid and potassium fertiliser role in enhancing the salt tolerance of pepper plants. The first factor included four levels of saline water irrigation, namely 2, 4, 6 and 8 dS.m-1. The second factor included a foliar application of three levels of humic acids i.e., 0, 25 and 50 kg.h-1. The third factor represents the addition of three levels of potassium fertiliser (potassium sulphate of 50% K2O according to the fertiliser recommendation of 0, 75 and 150 kg. h-1. The considered plant and soil traits were branch per plant, stem diameter (mm), percentage of protein in the fruits and soil pH. The results obtained from the experiment can be summed up above the treatment of air conditioning at saline level 6 ds m-1 in branch per plant with 12.3 and the most significant results obtained from the experiment can be summed up above the treatment of air conditioning at saline level 4 ds m-1 in stem diameter 2.03 mm. The results showed a decrease in branch per plant and stem diameter (mm) by increasing the salinity of irrigation water by 8 ds m-1 and the increase in the addition of humic acid and potassium fertiliser. The results showed a decrease in soil acidity (pH) increasing the salinity of irrigation and increasing fruit protein content by increasing the salinity.","PeriodicalId":8553,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Water, Environment and Pollution","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2024-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141266284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This temperature rise can be reduced by placing the μPMUs at selected nodes. Therefore, this paper depicted a hybrid approach for μPMUs optimal placement in the distribution system. Optimal placement recognises the placement set containing the least number of μPMUs with optimum redundancy with which the phasors of voltage, as well as the current, can be calculated at each bus of the system. Constraints such as communication link unavailability, zero injection buses, and network reconfiguration are considered in the optimal μPMU placement formulation. The proposed approach overcomes the downside of Integer Linear Programming (ILP) which provides a single optimal location set. The proposed approach automatically assigned μPMUs to buses connected to radial buses, established by the degree of each bus, and reduces the computational concern. Provided algorithm efficiency is checked out with IEEE 40 bus feeder and IEEE 85 bus feeder system under Matlab/Simulink environment.","PeriodicalId":8553,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Water, Environment and Pollution","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2024-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141267076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
