During disasters, livelihood systems are disrupted, and various socio-economic issues may arise if not properly addressed. This research provides a perspective on social-economic mitigation institutions in the context of community livelihood systems in disaster-prone areas. The research advocates the need for economic mitigation institutions in vulnerable communities in disaster-prone regions. The framework of these economic mitigation institutions emphasizes economic commodification schemes. This research examines the institutional dynamics communities implement in economic mitigation as part of their livelihood systems in disaster-prone regions. This research adopts a qualitative constructivist approach to construct a new conceptual framework for disaster mitigation. Data is collected through in-depth interviews and focused group discussions (FGDs). The findings show that various insights provide potential solutions for disaster-prone livelihood systems based on theoretical analysis and empirical findings from disaster-prone areas in Indonesia. Economic mitigation institutions are crucial for vulnerable communities and essential for sustainable development. Moreover, communities residing in disaster-prone areas naturally develop survival strategies by utilizing available resources.","PeriodicalId":85045,"journal":{"name":"Journal. However, insufficient management of residual production waste generates adverse effects on both the environment and the inhabitants residing near industrial zones. In response, the government has established regulatory measures for environmental protection and management through Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021. This regulation seeks to strike a balance between the community’s economic interests and environmental sustainability, safeguarding the rights of citizens. The core objectives of this research are to assess the state of environmental policies within the Sukaregang leather tanning industrial area, to scrutinize the implementation of environmental management practices, and to evaluate the impact of Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021. Employing a qualitative case study approach, the research centers on the Sukaregang leather tanning industrial area, a pivotal hub for the leather industry and a symbol of the Garut Regency. The data collection involves interviews with key stakeholders, including the Environmental Service, the leather tanning industry, and the affected community. The research concludes that while policies based on Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021 are in place, complementary local regulations are absent. The current implementation of environmental management continues to engender negative externalities in sectors such as agriculture, health, and environmental pollution. To address the shortfalls in achieving policy goals and objectives, it becomes imperative to establish local regulations that facilitate cost-sharing in the waste treatment process, utilizing Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) technology. Such measures are essential for upholding environmental quality for the residents of industrial areas.","PeriodicalId":85045,"journal":{"name":"Journal. Handayani","doi":"10.33019/society.v11i1.467","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.33019/society.v11i1.467","url":null,"abstract":"This research aims to analyze how far the internalization of the Pesantren (Islamic Boarding School) values as social capital has become a strategy for solving economic business development problems in Pesantren. One of the main problems Pesantren faces in developing economic businesses is the low quality of human resources and the governance of these economic institutions. The presence of economic businesses within Pesantren holds significant importance. Aside from ensuring the economic sustainability of the institution, it also serves as a platform for nurturing student entrepreneurship, contributing to the overall economic growth of the community. Using the approach of Pesantren values (called Panca Jiwa or Five Principles), namely sincerity, simplicity, independent, Islamic brotherhood (Ukhuwah Islamiyah), and freedom, is expected to be one way to overcome these problems. This research applies the analytic network process, including field surveys, focus group discussions, and in-depth interviews with four groups of respondents: experts, academics, practitioners, and regulators. Respondents were determined by purposive sampling by making Gontor Islamic Boarding School a research location. The results showed that the values of the five principles are internalized into social capital and become solutions to solving problems, like increasing networks with alumni, cooperation between institutions, and so on. This study offers practical implications, namely enabling the resolution of human resource problems with the principle of Islamic brotherhood, and social implications- the success of the economic development of Pesantren can indirectly improve the economic welfare of the surrounding community.","PeriodicalId":85045,"journal":{"name":"Journal.
