Raising livestock at the foot of an active volcano requires disaster mitigation against the risk of health problems and even death, which can be accomplished through a health examination. This research aims to identify ectoparasite infestations in goats victims of the Mount Semeru eruption disaster. Ectoparasite examination of each symptomatic goat in Kamarkajang Hamlet, Sumberwuluh Village, Lumajang Regency, East Java in March 2022 after the eruption of Mt. Semeru was carried out by taking samples directly from the lice and the eggs. Identification of ectoparasites using light microscopy. The identification results showed that Linognathus sp. and Bovicola sp. infested goats. There were 130 goats from 14 different cages; 6 goats (4.6%) in one cage were infested with lice, and 1 goat (0.8%) in another cage was suspected of scabiosis.","PeriodicalId":8407,"journal":{"name":"ARSHI Veterinary Letters","volume":"39 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139535736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper is the first report of a case of superfetated idiopathic abortion from natural mating that occurred in primiparous Pasundan cows. The cows were initially kept in a colony pen system and mixed between young bulls (n=10) and heifers (n = 18) for two weeks after moving the cows from the livestock pen in Ciamis Regency. Pregnancy occurs because of natural mating in heifers without a known age and pregnancy history. Two months later, a primiparous Pasundan cow was observed to show symptoms of vaginal bleeding and straining, accompanied by the expulsion of a small foetus (length ~ 25 cm, foetal age ~ 120 days) several hours later and had previously experienced an abortion with a large foetus (length ~ 36 cm, foetal age ~150 days). Primiparous Pasundan cows that experienced abortion were separated into individual pens to reduce stress and for further observation. The therapy given is antibiotics and multivitamins were administered as therapeutic agents.","PeriodicalId":8407,"journal":{"name":"ARSHI Veterinary Letters","volume":" March","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139137030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Anaplasma in cats is generally infected by Anaplasma phagocytophilum, however there are very limited reports of Anaplasma bovis such as Anaplasma marginale and Anaplasma centrale being reported to infect cats. This is the first report of anaplasmosis caused by Anaplasma centrale in cats. The owner brought a one-year-old female domestic cat to the Animal Hospital of Hasanuddin University in Makassar with the condition of not wanting to eat, weak, lethargic, dehydrated, and not defaecating. Diagnosis is carried out through anamnesis, physical examination, clinical examination, and laboratory examination, in the form of haematology and blood smear tests. The results of the examination revealed flea infestation, a blood test identified Anaplasma centrale with characteristics such as the presence of morulae in the middle part of the erythrocytes, and routine blood work showed anaemia which was seen in the MCV parameters increasing and the MCHC values decreased. Treatment consists of administration of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and supportive therapy. The cat showed good results, with symptoms starting to disappear and the animal appeared active.","PeriodicalId":8407,"journal":{"name":"ARSHI Veterinary Letters","volume":" 23","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139137275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper reports the treatment of spectacular dysecdysis in a Boa constrictor snake. The snake Boly, approximately 1.5 years old with a body weight of 8 ounces, experienced stuck eye caps or spectacular dysecdysis after an incomplete moulting process. There was swelling of the tissue in both eyes, and the boa lost appetite. Treatment was carried out by administering antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs for the first 3 days and continued with supporting supplements in the form of iron and intramuscular vitamin B12 for the next 3 days. The swollen tissue in the left eye burst and caused damage to the eye organs, whereas the dried tissue in the right eye was peeled off manually. The snake's appetite has improved again, and it wants to eat on its own.","PeriodicalId":8407,"journal":{"name":"ARSHI Veterinary Letters","volume":"9 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139155703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study assessed the prevalence of diseases caused by canine blood parasites (Anaplasmosis, Babesiosis, and Ehrlichliosis) at the Companion Veterinary Clinic, Melaka, Malaysia, from August 2020 to July 2022. Secondary data of 103 infected dogs were obtained from medical records. Dogs at the puppy stage were more commonly diagnosed (26.21 %). Both males and females showed almost the same prevalence of 52.43% and 47.57%, respectively. Mongrel had a relatively higher prevalence compared to pedigree dogs but there was no breed predisposition. Multiple infections were more common than single infections. Canine tick-borne diseases show a higher prevalence during the intermonsoon season in Malaysia. Anorexia, inactivity, and bleeding diatheses are the most common clinical signs observed in dogs. To support the diagnosis, anaemia and thrombocytopenia were observed in the patient’s complete blood count results. The test kit was positive when antibodies or antigens were detected and parasites could also be observed under a microscope using a blood smear. The prevalence of tick-borne diseases is influenced by intrinsic (age and sex) and extrinsic factors (weather).","PeriodicalId":8407,"journal":{"name":"ARSHI Veterinary Letters","volume":"96 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139003855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research aimed to study veterinary forensic science through histopathology of broiler chicken livers 48 h after death. Seventy-five broiler chickens aged 7 days were euthanized and divided into 25 groups based on post-euthanasia necropsy (n=3). Chicken cadavers were necropsied every 2 h postmortem, and livers were collected to prepare histopathological sections and stained with haematoxylin-eosin (HE). Liver histopathology evaluation and the results obtained were analysed using ImageJ software version 1.53a. The relationship between histopathological variables and postmortem time was analysed using the Pearson’s method. The results showed that decay began at the 18th h postmortem which was marked by the number of hepatocyte cell nuclei. At the 20th hour, putrefactive bacteria were found, and at the 22nd hour, there was an increase in the distance between the hepatocytes. Based on the Pearson correlation value, the number of hepatocyte cell nuclei, the distance between hepatocytes, and the presence of putrefactive bacteria have a strong to very strong relationship with postmortem time; therefore, these results can be used to determine the time of death (postmortem interval)","PeriodicalId":8407,"journal":{"name":"ARSHI Veterinary Letters","volume":"21 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138984438","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
