The reasons for the loss of urban status are named. The full list of former Russian cities transformed into urban-type settlements and rural settlements is given. All absorbed, abolished and disappeared cities on the territory of the Russian Federation are listed. A complete list of former regional and sub-regional centers of the Russian Empire, the RSFSR and the Russian Federation is presented and characterized.
