A country with healthy citizens achieves success in the socio-economic development of the nation. The development of the nation does not mean the development of one class but the development of all classes. This study, tries to describe the socio-demographic and health status of women in Nepal. This study is completely based on secondary data sources and the data has been taken from various reports. The sex ratio of Nepal according to preliminary reports of census 2021 is 96. Currently literacy rate of women is 57 percent. Still, the practice of early marriage of women is culturally rooted in Nepal. Women get married earlier than men. Around 16 percent of women have children before the age of 20 years. Similarly, 17 percent of women are underweight and 22 percent are overweight. This indicates the problem of malnutrition is a serious problem in Nepal. Iron deficiency or anemia is a serious health problem for women in Nepal. The Nepal demographic and health survey 2016 has shown that 41 percent of women aged 15-49 years are anemic. Approximately 6 percent of pregnant women do not receive antenatal care, and 41 percent give birth at home, which can be dangerous for both the mother and the child. Women’s participation is essential for overall development. The government should pay attention to the development of the country by improving the overall health condition of women and coordinating every aspect of development.","PeriodicalId":83773,"journal":{"name":"Korea journal of population and development","volume":"49 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88415078","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Maternal health remains a major challenge in developing countries despite improvements in medical technology and several efforts to improve maternal health care services. This study is based on Nepal Demographic and Health Survey data from 2006, 2011, and 2016. It covers 4,066 women in 2006, 4,148 in 2011 and 3,998 in 2016 for antenatal care. In the study, this analysis is confined to women aged (15-49) who had a live birth in the five years preceding the survey. Data on delivery care were obtained for all births that occurred in the five or two years preceding the survey. This study comprises 2030 women in 2011 and 1,978 women in 2016 aged 15–49 years who had a live birth in the two years preceding the survey on childbirth, and postnatal care. Especially, the study deals with antenatal, delivery care, and postnatal care. There is a substantial increase in the utilization of antenatal care (ANC) by skilled health providers from, 44 percent in 2006 to 84 percent in 2016 respectively. Still, six percent percentage do not seek even one-time ANC care and the percentage of women who seek 4 or more ANC care from a skilled service provider is low. Still, two fifth percent of delivery take place at home. postnatal service is still very low in Nepal. This study’s results suggest the need for efforts to be addressed to improve the use of maternal health care services in Nepal. There is a need to increase the use of postnatal checkup as well as delivery assisted by skilled attendants.","PeriodicalId":83773,"journal":{"name":"Korea journal of population and development","volume":"63 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86550846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

International migration and remittances are being important as well as debatable issues in current context. Secondary sources of data and information are used in this paper. The opportunities and challenges are analyzed from both sending and host countries. There is no unanimous views among the scholars about opportunities and challenges of migrants in the context of sending and host countries. Remittances have been contributed to reduce poverty level of migrants’ households and migration has been contributed to replace the ageing work force of the developed countries. The decreasing working age population due to decreased fertility rate in the context of economically developed countries has been a major policy concern.","PeriodicalId":83773,"journal":{"name":"Korea journal of population and development","volume":"8 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73339866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The number of reported rape cases continues to rise despite strict laws in Nepal. The topic is framed as part of women issue of gender based violence. This article tries to highlight the trend and situation of sexual assault (rape) analyzing the existing rape cases. The study is based on descriptive as well as analytical in nature. Sources of information in this study are secondary data like published and un- published research papers, journal articles and survey reports with desk review method. Although most countries have laws  prohibiting sexual assault and violence. While the number of rape cases and sexual violence has increased in several nations in recent years, there are still countries where no rape incidents have been documented. The Nepal Police in 2021 reported that up to seven women and girls are raped every day in the country, most of them by neighbors, relatives and acquaintances. Therefore, the state should not fail to protect the rights of the victims.” The incidents of murder and murder after rape have increased drastically in the recent times. According to statistics, 17 women were murdered after rape in the past four years. One point that has come under intense scrutiny is that law in Nepal specifies women and girls as the victim in case of rape. Despite the Constitution and law guarantees, instances of rape are increasing in Nepal. In the other, sexual violence by intimate partner is largely unreported due to social stigma as well as the belief that forced sexual relation by a husband without the consent of the wife doesn’t constitute violence. Many cases of rape and sexual violence go unreported to police because of social stigma, lack of trust in the justice system and lack of protection of victims.","PeriodicalId":83773,"journal":{"name":"Korea journal of population and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83026110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The specific objectives are to study the trends, patterns and diversifications of foreign labor migration. This study uses entirely secondary data. The majority of Nepali families earn their income through foreign employment. Nepal has about 200 years’ long history of receiving international remittance, as a sum of money transferred from foreign migrant workers to individual or their families in their homeland. The Gulf Cooperation Council and Malaysia are the major destination countries for Nepalese workers. The report of National Planning Commission 2020/21 shows Nepal received NPR 961.05 billions remittance from 128 different countries constituting 22.5 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The report of economic survey 2020/21 shows annual per capita income of Nepal reached 1, 381 US dollars in 2021, with an increment of about 11 percent to the previous year. Migration and remittance have contributed to increase the per capita income of Nepal over the years along with significant change in the social development.","PeriodicalId":83773,"journal":{"name":"Korea journal of population and development","volume":"243 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75864743","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
