CT angiography has now been incorporated into daily practice and in may cases has replaced conventional angiography. CT angiography has also resulted in new applications for CT such as coronary angiography. This article discusses the current state of the art of 3D CT angiography and reviews the literature. Extensive case examples are included.","PeriodicalId":83673,"journal":{"name":"Critical reviews in computed tomography","volume":"1 1","pages":"355-88"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74908577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Delay in the diagnosis can result in significant morbidity and mortality. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging play an important role in the diagnosis of brain abscesses. However, the classic ring-enhancing appearance of an intracranial abscess can be mimicked by several other entities, most notably a necrotic tumor. This paper reviews new advances in CT and MR for imaging patients with suspected brain abscess. The role of computed tomography (CT) perfusion and new magnetic resonance sequences including DWI sequences, ADC map, MR spectroscopy, FLAIR and post-contrast enhanced T1 weighted images will also be discussed.","PeriodicalId":83673,"journal":{"name":"Critical reviews in computed tomography","volume":"122 1","pages":"181-224"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86444815","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
