It can be present in different forms, including alimentary, mediastinal, multicentric and extranodal.   In both cases described in this report, signs consistent with chronic kidney disease were present. An ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration was performed and suggested a lymphocyte neoplastic process. Both cats received prednisolone and life support treatment, with mild improvement. One cat was euthanatized and the other died spontaneously, five and seven days after onset of treatment, respectively. The kidneys were enlarged, whitish, irregular, with a firm mass in the cortex. Histopathology confirmed that the lymphoma was restricted to the kidneys.","PeriodicalId":8351,"journal":{"name":"Archives of Veterinary Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48451415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently harvested corn grains were selected, and grains attacked by fungi (fermented and moldy) and intact grains were separated to establish the following grain mixtures (treatments): 1 – 0% fermented/moldy and 100% intact grains; 2 - 10% fermented/moldy and 90% intact grains; 3 - 20% fermented/moldy and 80% intact grains; 4 - 30% fermented/moldy and 70% intact grains; and 5 - 40% fermented/moldy and 60% intact grains. Samples from each treatment were analyzed for dry matter (DM), ash (A), crude protein (CP), crude fiber (CF), ether extract (EE), and gross energy (GE) contents, water activity (aw), density, and hardness. Chemical composition and density data were submitted to analysis of regression, hardness values were compared by Tukey test (P<0.05), and Pearson’s correlations (P<0.05) between chemical and physical parameters were calculated. Increasing ratios of moldy corn relative to intact corn reduced DM, CF, EE, and GE contents, increased A, CP, Wa values, and reduced the density of the lot. Moldy grains presented lower hardness values compared with intact corn. This study shows that fungus damage affects corn grain physical-chemical properties.","PeriodicalId":8351,"journal":{"name":"Archives of Veterinary Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44332828","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

O trabalho teve como objetivo descrever as características histopatológicas dos tumores sugestivos de FP e pesquisar a presença de DNA de Chelonid alphaherpesvirus 5 (ChHV5) em lesões cutâneas  de 26 tartarugas verdes encalhadas na Bacia Potiguar (nordeste do Brasil). As tartarugas verdes foram encontradas durante o monitoramento diário, e os tumores de FP foram coletados por biópsia ou durante necropsia, quantificados e analisados de acordo com distribuição anatômica, tamanho e Escore de Fibropapilomatose do Atlântico Sudoeste (FPSSWA). Vinte e seis cortes histológicos foram examinados, e 26 amostras fixadas em formalina e embebidas em parafina foram analisadas por reação em cadeia da polimerase (PCR) para detectar o DNA do ChHV5. Um total de 292 tumores foi analisado (1-42 por indivíduo), sendo a maioria com tamanho de 1-4 cm (74%; 218/292 tumores) e presentes nos membros anteriores (48,6%; 142/292 tumores). De acordo com o FPSSWA, a maioria das tartarugas verdes estava afetada de forma leve (53,8%; 14/26). O exame histopatológico revelou características previamente descritas na literatura (projeções papilares da camada epitelial, hiperceratose, hiperplasia da camada basal, fibroblastos em proliferação bem diferenciados) classificando os tumores como papilomas ou fibropapilomas. Com relação aos resultados de PCR, 79,9% das amostras de tumor testadas foram positivas para ChHV5 e as sequências foram obtidas em todas as amostras amplificadas. Nossas sequências UL30 são idênticas a várias sequências descritas em tartarugas marinhas do Brasil, enquanto as sequências UL18 e UL27 são mais semelhantes as de tartarugas verdes na Flórida. Nosso estudo relata detecção e caracterização molecular do ChHV5 em tartarugas verdes encalhadas na Bacia Potiguar, importante área de alimentação com alta frequência de ocorrência de FP.","PeriodicalId":8351,"journal":{"name":"Archives of Veterinary Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43236956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this, questionnaires answered by tutors in an awareness campaign about breast cancer in bitches and cats were evaluated to identifypredisposing factors and risk to the disease, access to veterinary care and guidance on the topic. 1,143 questionnaires were analyzed, which revealed the presence of highly predisposing factors such as the predominance of females, of the canine species and of small canine breeds. The low average age of the population studied was the only factor that indicated a low predisposition. As for the risk factors analyzed, the predominance of non-castrated animals revealed a high risk of developing the disease, while the low occurrence of pseudocyesis and the use of contraceptives were not impact factors in this population. In addition, only 29.3% of tutors who took their animals for veterinary care were instructed on the disease and / or preventive methods such as castration. It is concluded that the analyzed population has a high predisposition to the development of breast neoplasms, which should intensify the training of the veterinarian to include preventive guidance during consultations, expand educational campaigns on the subject and castrations in the region of Seropédica and surroundings.","PeriodicalId":8351,"journal":{"name":"Archives of Veterinary Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48670340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The parasite causes high morbidity and mortality, even though, the indiscriminate use of chemicals to control H. contortus has favored the selection of multidrug resistance parasites. Molecular diagnosis of resistance to the benzimidazole (BZs) group is important to indicate substitute strategies of control. The aim of this study was to determine the presence of the mutation at position F200Y of the beta-tubulin gene in seven populations of H. contortus from sheep and goats’ farms from the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. Twenty adult H. contortus male worms were recovered for DNAextraction from naturally infected animals, from farms from Recife, Sairé, Camocim deSão Félix, Gameleira, Moreno, Bonito, and Serra Talhada. The primers forward: 5` AAT GCT TCC ACC CTT GTC CAT C 3’, and reverse: 5’ CAA CAA CGG GCA TGA AGA AG 3’ were used to search for the main codon (F200Y) of the beta-tubulin gene to determine BZ resistance. The NC1/ITS-2 forward: 5’ ACG TCT GGT TCA GGG GTT TT 3’ and reverse: 5’ TTA TCT GTT TTT CCT GCC CT 3’ primers were used for confirming H. contortus species. A questionnaire was applied to obtain information on management practices, including the frequency of BZs use. The sequences from the NC1/ITS-2 confirmed the presence of H. contortus from all samples. The F200Y mutation responsible for BZ resistance (TTC/TAC) in H. contortus was found only in the samples from Sairé, as the TTC codon varied from 55.6 to 85.7%. In relation to the questionnaire, producers revealed the absence of quarantine for newly arrived animals; high drug treatment frequency (60-days interval); treatment of the whole flock; the visual estimation of the weight of the animals for dose determination; and high drug rotation. It was also mentioned the lack of veterinary assistance with no use of fecal exams. Even though, all these factors may be essential to increase parasite selection pressure, it was not possible to determine which of those showed a higher risk due to the high number of variables and the small number of participants. This is without any doubt one of the great difficulties to correlate phenotypic drug efficacy data (ex. FECRT) and genotypic-related (ex. PCR) resistance markers in helminths. We have included some risk factors reported by the farmers from Pernambuco and their influences in the process of drug selection, as well as a few strategies to mitigate this situation. The present report constitutes the first record of a molecular diagnosis of the mutation F200Y that confers resistance to the BZ group in ruminants in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil.","PeriodicalId":8351,"journal":{"name":"Archives of Veterinary Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46134583","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Interlocking Nail (IN) is a widely used implant, they resist flexion, torsion and axial compression forces. The present study aims to evaluate the time of consolidation, formation of bone callus, and possible complications with the use of IN to reduce fractures. 67 cases were selected in which IN were used to reduce fractures of dogs, which were evaluated clinically e radiographically regarding the time and type of consolidation, early deambulation, complications and limb function. The data obtained was presented in the form of descriptive statistics. It was possible to conclude that IN is an intramedullary implant that allows early return to function as it supports the load placed in the bone during walking, thus allowing the micromovement of the fracture focus, leading to secundary consolidation.","PeriodicalId":8351,"journal":{"name":"Archives of Veterinary Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45909116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
