The editorial office was in the possession of the local printers of the Landfras family, who had owned the printing works from 1797. The establishment of the periodical press in Jindřichův Hradec was initiated by the printer Alois Landfras, who in 1844 bought a cylinder press, suitable for printing periodicals, and who had a number of personal contacts in Prague patriotic circles, where he was in touch mainly with Jan Hýbl, František Bohumil Tomsa, Václav Rodomil Kramerius and Josef Kajetán Tyl. He made two unsuccessful attempts to publish a Czech periodical in Jindřichův Hradec in 1848 and 1863. The Czech weekly Ohlas od Nežárky began to be issued there in 1871 and continued to come out for 72 years. Ohlas od Nežárky captured the everyday life of the town and the surrounding region as well as important social events in 1871–1942, i.e. during the ex­istence of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the independent Czechoslovak Republic and the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, as well as during the First and partly also the Second World War. In terms of information, the weekly became primarily a chronicle of the life of the town, but also an authentic reflection of contemporary events in the Czech-German environment outside of Prague. It is one of the longest-running Czech regional magazines. Since 2002, its full-text search is possible in its digital copy in the Kramerius digital library of the Museum of the Jindřichův Hradec region.","PeriodicalId":82651,"journal":{"name":"Sbornik Narodniho muzea v Praze. The journal was published in the Moravian Industrial Museum in Brno in 1883–1918, when the museum was headed by two important directors – August Prokop (1883–1893) and Julius Leisching (1893–1922). Under the influence of the latter, the museum became the press authority of the Association of Austrian Museums of Applied Arts, the Association of Austro-Moravian Local Museums and the German-Moravian Association of Heritage Preservation. Novotná","doi":"10.37520/amnpsc.2022.036","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.37520/amnpsc.2022.036","url":null,"abstract":"The poor physical condition of paper carriers, not only books but especially older newspapers and magazines, significantly limits their use by the readership and, in the event of their disintegration, leads to an irreplaceable loss of part of the national cultural heritage. The reduced lifespan of manufactured materials, their lower mechanical resistance and frequent visual changes prevent interlibrary loan, limit user copying, and, most importantly, reduce the ability of curators of library collections to retain such damaged documents for future generations or at least until they are digitised. A survey of the physical condition of the collections is the first step in planning the activities of the preservation and conservation of large collections and holdings. It makes it possible to evaluate the most endangered parts of the collection and to plan the sequence of individual interventions for the stabilisation of library collections. These comprise texts written between the 1730s and the 1780s. Thematically, these are mostly books of miracles, which were intended to record miraculous events in writing and (in the case of printed sources) to spread awareness of the existence and importance of the pilgrimage site; however, they also contain information on the history of Marian devotion in Sepekov. Most of these works are anonymous; nevertheless, since the books of miracles were mostly written by parish priests, the identification of the likely authors is based on the analysis of the staffing of the church administration in Sepekov by the Strahov Premonstratensians. An important part of the library collection comes from the estate of Eugen Karl Count Czernin (1796–1868) and a different part of this collection originates from another library of the family, namely from the castle of St Petersburg. A number of the books originally came from other later dispersed collections, both domestic and foreign, e. g. from the library of Prosper, Prince of Sinzendorf (1751–1822), Georg Andreas Will (1727–1798) and Ferdinand Hoffmann of Grünbüchel (1631–1664). The library of approximately 1,200 volumes remained part of the Jindřichův Hradec archives even after the confiscation in 1945. As already mentioned, the library administrators tried to gather as large a collection of Bohemian literature as possible and to a large extent succeeded. In addition to the richly represented earlier Bohemian historical or topographical literature, the collection contains at least eight 16th–18th-century printed books that can be described as quite unique.","PeriodicalId":82651,"journal":{"name":"Sbornik Narodniho muzea v Praze.
