One can come across scraps of information either in recollections on Babiâli or in some memoirs devoted to the history of the rare books trade in Turkey. Traditionally the rare books trade and bookstores were mostly in the hands of Armenians, Greeks and Jews in the Ottoman Empire and early Republican years. However there is not much information available on these dealers and store owners. Not holding broader information about the three Jewish bookstores studied in this article stems from such lack of information and documentation.","PeriodicalId":81746,"journal":{"name":"Judaica librarianship","volume":"20 1","pages":"159-179"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45654445","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the 1980s, the library has pioneered the use of computers for the provision of services, by means of commercial products and in-house software development, most notably the Index to Hebrew Periodicals. Emphasis is placed on developing information literacy by means of instruction, reference services, and online tools. The library attempts to make the user community aware of its offerings through the use of social media and hosting public events. This article traces the history of the library and describes its special collections, innovative services and projects. The appendix includes suggestions for further reading.","PeriodicalId":81746,"journal":{"name":"Judaica librarianship","volume":"19 1","pages":"24-42"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66844853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Phonemic conversion of Hebrew neither uses transliteration nor transcription strategies but reconstructs the theoretical structure of the original Hebrew word based on its phonemes. The article describes this scheme and its benefits, which include full coverage of all historical periods and script modes of Hebrew, and full reversibility, complete with an online interface that enables automatic conversion. The article compares the suggested phonemic conversion scheme with the ALA/LC Romanization of Hebrew and provides a history of previously attempted reversal schemes.","PeriodicalId":81746,"journal":{"name":"Judaica librarianship","volume":"19 1","pages":"43-72"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66845688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
