Conversely, physical inactivity has a high human cost in terms of health. It shortens years of life, decreases quality of life, and limits functional independence. This mission of compassionate caring is a long-standing tradition and one that defines what hospitals are all about. Michigan's nonprofit community hospitals serve as the health care safety net for the uninsured and underinsured. Their doors are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Michigan citizens have come to expect nothing less and oftentimes more. But providing high-quality and accessible acute care is only part of what makes Michigan's nonprofit hospitals an essential community asset.</p>","PeriodicalId":80083,"journal":{"name":"Michigan health & hospitals","volume":"39 4","pages":"8-11"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"22504334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
