This article will provide an overview of CGM technologies, including the most common types of devices, the data generated and information regarding access to these devices via NHS funding, alongside guidance for CGM use in clinical practice. Diabetes technologies are developing at pace, and so practice nurses will increasingly encounter people using CGM. Most of the costs are linked with advanced kidney disease and the associated cardiovascular disease. Fortunately, there are now several treatments that can not only slow the progression of chronic kidney disease but also reduce the burden of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. To do this effectively, patients need to be diagnosed as early as possible, as only then can optimal preventative measures, both lifestyle and pharmaceutical, be deployed. With the scale and complexity of chronic kidney disease, timely access to specialist care is increasingly required. Referral criteria have changed, with more focus on the 5-year risk of developing end-stage renal disease by using the four variable kidney failure risk equation. One of the major limitations to the effective treatment of people living with chronic kidney disease is hyperkalaemia. The appropriate frequency of testing, assessment and management of hyperkalaemia helps not only reduce the risk of dying from the condition, but also from chronic kidney disease and heart failure, as too often sub-optimal treatment with renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors impairs optimal care. Chronic kidney disease is commonly seen in primary care. Research shows that HCPs report not having enough knowledge to facilitate an open conversation with patients from the LGBTQ+ community, leading to patients feeling ignored. To explore HCPs’ experiences of supporting patients from the LGBTQ+ community. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with HCPs recruited from the research teams’ professional network. Data were analysed using deductive thematic analysis. HCPs reported positive and negative experiences, as well as a variety of barriers and facilitators to effective communication, with patients from the LGBTQ+ community. HCPs discussed how clinical practice could improve, for example, by developing more inclusive training that is specific to the HCPs’ clinical group. HCP training needs to be more inclusive of LGBTQ+ identities. It should be tailored to the HCPs’ patient group as this better reflects the varied needs of different clinical groups.
