Basic strategies of dynamic supportive therapy. 动态支持治疗的基本策略。

{"title":"Basic strategies of dynamic supportive therapy.","authors":"D A Misch","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

Supportive therapy is the psychotherapeutic approach employed with the majority of mentally ill individuals. Nevertheless, most mental health professional training programs dedicate little time and effort to the teaching and learning of supportive therapy, and many mental health professionals are unable to clearly and concisely articulate the nature or process of supportive work. Although supportive therapy incorporates many specific techniques from a wide variety of psychotherapy schools, it can be conceptualized as consisting of a more limited number of underlying strategies. The fundamental strategies that underpin effective supportive therapy with mentally ill individuals are described.
","PeriodicalId":79465,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of psychotherapy practice and research","volume":"9 4","pages":"173-89"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3330607/pdf/173.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"21895247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results indicate that the ESTs share the following characteristics: they involve skill building, have a specific problem focus, incorporate continuous assessment of client progress, and involve brief treatment contact, requiring 20 or fewer sessions. Traditional assessment methods, such as intelligence testing, projectives, and objective personality tests such as the MMPI-2, are rarely used in these treatments. Although it is recognized that these findings are in part an artifact of sociological factors present in contemporary psychotherapy development and research, the findings may also serve as a heuristic aid in the development of therapies.
","PeriodicalId":79465,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of psychotherapy practice and research","volume":"9 2","pages":"69-74"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3330591/pdf/69.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"21640660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, empirical studies about the frequency of working on dreams in therapy are lacking. The present study elicited, via a self-developed questionnaire, various aspects of work on dreams applied by psychotherapists in private practice. The findings indicate that dreams were often used in therapy, especially in psychoanalysis. In addition, a significant relationship was found between the frequency of the therapists' working on their own dreams and frequency of work on dreams in therapy. Because work on dreams was rated as beneficial for the clients, further studies investigating the effectiveness and the process of working on dreams will be of interest.
","PeriodicalId":79465,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of psychotherapy practice and research","volume":"9 2","pages":"81-7"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3330585/pdf/81.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"21640662","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

"Moving along" in psychotherapy with schizophrenia patients. 精神分裂症患者心理治疗中的 "前进"。

{"title":"\"Moving along\" in psychotherapy with schizophrenia patients.","authors":"A Rogan","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

Current treatment of the schizophrenic patient relies primarily on psychopharmacological management, psychoeducation, and family work. If individual psychotherapy is an adjunct, it is generally supportive. Recent focus on determinants of change in classical psychoanalysis suggests that noninterpretive mechanisms may have an impact at least equivalent to that of the well-timed transference interpretation. The author argues that the same noninterpretive mechanisms may be even more important for change in patients in a supportive process. The second edition meets and exceeds the standard set forth by the first. Nearly half of the chapters in the second edition have been substantially revised, expanding and deepening our understanding of the methodological material covered in the first edition. Even more noteworthy are the new chapters that cover contemporary issues and describe recent methodological advances. The remarkably lucid and consistent writing style across chapters makes the material very accessible to graduate students—the intended audience—while the breadth of coverage makes the text an important reference for the seasoned researcher. The text, divided into five parts, generally follows the pattern established in the first edition. The first section consists of five chapters that cover general issues in clinical research and begins with an overview chapter by Allan Kazdin containing clear and practical illustrations that describe the underlying assumptions and components of clinical research. Ethical issues are presented with appropriate humor and simplicity in the second chapter, and the cross-cultural research chapter that follows has been expanded to include pertinent gender and ethnicity considerations. The new chapter on statistical methods advocates the proper match between statistical model and research question and is written in a remarkably approachable fashion. The first section finishes with a timely and forthright treatment of the publication process and describes the economic, political, and cultural forces that operate within the peer review system. The second section consists of seven chapters that focus on assessment research, including two substantially revised chapters on observational assessment and methodological issues in psychophysiological research. An entirely new chapter on self-report assessment uses the development and history of the MMPI to masterfully illustrate issues such as response distortion, cultural considerations, and generalization validity. Although projective assessment is losing favor in some clinical psychology training programs, a chapter is devoted to a compelling theoretical and empirical argument for the value of projective techniques. Neuropsychological assessment is an enormously complex and broad topic, so the chapter addressing this topic appropriately limits its focus to four methodological issues that affect intellectual assessment. Finally, two new measurement chapters are included. The first of these addresses traditional psychometric topics such as reliability and validity, with a particular emphasis on their conditional nature and utility. The chapter on item response theory (IRT) provides a brief overview of the advantages of IRT over classical tes","PeriodicalId":79465,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of psychotherapy practice and research","volume":"16 1","pages":"108-110"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75829642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Initially developed for the treatment of panic disorder with limited agoraphobic avoidance, PCT more recently has been finding broader applications. It has been used as an aid to pharmacotherapy discontinuation in panic disorder; in the treatment of panic attacks associated with other disorders such as schizophrenia; and, in combination with a situational exposure component, in the treatment of patients with moderate to severe agoraphobia.
