Their sources of information on health matters and persons they considered supportive were also examined. A survey was conducted by means of an anonymous questionnaire given to 250 women; 130 were returned. The results of the survey showed a low positive correlation between attitude toward and knowledge of menopause. A relationship was also shown to exist between knowledge level and income level, with women in the upper income level showing a better knowledge level. A generally positive attitude toward menopause was seen in this sample. A fairly good knowledge base was also seen, although several areas of concern became evident. It was concluded that nursing attention should be directed toward improving the client's knowledge level, especially in lower income women.","PeriodicalId":79224,"journal":{"name":"Issues in health care of women","volume":"3 4","pages":"263-76"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1981-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/07399338109515594","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"17975380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specific areas investigated were smoking, alcohol consumption, and drug use; gynecologic health practices and problems; nutrition, exercise, and coping strategies; and physical illness and disabilities. The majority of young women in this study appeared to be in good health. Although there were few negative health factors, those factors identified have significance for long‐term health. Problems were identified in the areas of nutrition, gynecologic health practices, and coping strategies. This survey pointed out the need for further study of practices that influence the health of young women.","PeriodicalId":79224,"journal":{"name":"Issues in health care of women","volume":"3 4","pages":"231-9"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1981-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/07399338109515591","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"17975376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the advances made in medical care, there are still neglected groups of patients. Nurses represent perhaps the nation's most appropriate resource capable of responding to the inequity in delivery of health care services. While nurses have the power of numbers, knowledge, position, and pride to improve the quality of care for the underserved population, they must exercise the power of politics to make this goal a reality.","PeriodicalId":79224,"journal":{"name":"Issues in health care of women","volume":"3 4","pages":"241-7"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1981-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/07399338109515592","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"17975378","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The prevalence and significance of the problem is illustrated through comparison of recent reports. Possible physiologic and psychologic contributing factors are discussed including hypothesized etiology as well as recognized associated events. The relationship of prolonged gestation to fetal postmaturity is discussed in pathophysiologic detail. The effects of postmaturity on the developing child with implications for follow‐up are also presented. Assessment of fetal and neonatal status for the purpose of risk identification develops the theme of reduction of reproductive casualties during this period. Finally, the nursing implications are discussed at the primary and secondary perinatal settings, with emphasis on maintaining psychologic and physiologic equilibrium.","PeriodicalId":79224,"journal":{"name":"Issues in health care of women","volume":"3 3","pages":"139-50"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1981-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/07399338109515584","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"18089916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
