The actual performance of the eye's optics is discussed with respect to chromatic aberration, absorption losses, scatter and the in vivomeasurement of the modulation transfer function. Physiological aspects of the eye's visual performance are described, including pupil size, and the influence of various factors on visual acuity.","PeriodicalId":78927,"journal":{"name":"Optica acta","volume":"17 9","pages":"641-58"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1970-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/713818355","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"16564835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data, E-field signals recorded with a 10 khz bandwidth, were available from only ten events, all airdrops. Since the signals were of an unknown form, they were classified into sub-groups by using a cross-correlation technique. Spatial carrier-frequency filters, constructed for these signals, were then tested to determine their ability to recognize all ten signals while rejecting noise from atmospheric sources. The experiments, although of a preliminary nature, show that all the test signals can be recognized with a two-channel filter and that the nearest noise peak (from six samples) is 6–8 db less than the minimum correlation peak from any of the ten signals.","PeriodicalId":78927,"journal":{"name":"Optica acta","volume":"16 4","pages":"453-61"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1969-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/713818191","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"16884036","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Angular diameters from 19′–240′ were used. The R.M.S. deviation of the direction of the visual axis from its mean direction increases by less than a factor of two between the extreme sizes of the target. There is an unexplained reduction in accuracy of fixation when the diameter of the target is about equal to the diameter of the fovea. Experiments have also been carried out on the accuracy of fixation of the centre of two small dots separated either vertically or horizontally at function of distance between the dots. The accuracy of fixation for these targets is unexpectedly good.","PeriodicalId":78927,"journal":{"name":"Optica acta","volume":"16 2","pages":"183-90"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1969-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/713818162","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"16870685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
