Methods and Materials: A retrospective cross-sectional study design was employed. Adapted and pre-tested structured English version checklist for availability and utilization of medical equipment, document review and an in-depth interview were used for data collection. Data were collected by observation of availability of the medical equipment and interviewing selected professionals for utilization of capital item medical equipment. Microsoft excel 2013 was used for data analysis. Descriptive analysis was made to determine the availability and functional status of medical devices and qualitative part were thematically analysed. Results: This finding showed that about 60.4% (209) of medical equipment are available from the total required quantity of 348 which account only 45 (37.2%) of them were items. Among the available 209 medical equipment’s about 84.67% of them are functional and 15.33% of them were non-functional during the assessment. Besides, the Donated equipment accounts 45%. From eight-capital item three of them were properly utilized with utilization coefficient of 81.4%, 100% and 100.0% while the rest five were underutilized with utilization coefficient of 2.5%, 5.77%, 9.2% and 0%. Conclusion and Recommendation: The hospital lacks valuable, advanced and specialized medical equipment that are needed for diagnosis and treatment. Medical equipment fails due to lack of training for user, infrastructure problem like power surge and hard water, and misuse. Training that improves skill of the user and technicians should be given.","PeriodicalId":7857,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Biomedical and Life Sciences","volume":"47 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73789417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The bio element nutritional status may be defined as deficient, adequate, or excessive/toxic. Non-invasive method of hair collection makes it a tissue of choice for multi bio element analysis in precision medicine and nutritional epidemiology. Methods. Hair multi bio element profile of healthy 1073 subjects (339 Men. 734Women) was analyzed with the ICP MS. The frequency distribution of the hair log concentration data was used to assess the bio element nutritional status with the median derivatives bioassay. The assay allows for the reliable assessment of the bio element deficiency, adequacy, and excess. Results. Nutritional status of P, Zn, and the bio element pairs of I and Se, Ca and Mg, and Na and K are fully exposed and illustrated. The nutritional status of all twenty two hair bio elements are presented in Table 1 in their decreasing order of abundance (µg·g -1 ): Calcium, Zinc, Phosphorus, Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, Silicon, Copper, Iron, Aluminum, Boron, Strontium, Chromium, Iodine, Selenium, and in (ng·g -1 ) for Nickel, Manganese, Molybdenum, Silver, Lithium, Cobalt and Gold. Conclusion. Hair bio element median derivatives bioassay proved to be a rapid, reliable, accurate, and fully reproducible method for assessing the bio element nutritional status, the nutritional health surveillance, and maintenance in precision medicine.","PeriodicalId":7857,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Biomedical and Life Sciences","volume":"33 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81295175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It remains endemic and is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the most vulnerable groups, including children under five and pregnant women. The fight against plasmodium today faces not only diversity, preventive struggles, but also the spread of resistant parasites to available antimalarials. Several factors, among others, genetic factors, and the immune system predispose patients to develop resistances. The parasite's resistance to antimalarial would continue to be an obstacle to the management of malaria in Cameroon. This study aimed to determine the frequency of the mutation affecting the gene CYP2C8 ( CYP2C8 *2) and its influence on the mutation N86Y of the plasmodial gene Pfmdr1 in children under 15 years of age suffering from non-complicated malaria in Yaounde. Methods: This was a population based, retrospective study in a Cameroonian population. Archived whole blood samples collected from One hundred children infected with Plasmodium falciparum malaria were randomly selected. Blood samples spotted on filter papers were used for DNA (plasmodial and human) extraction performed by the chelex-100 method. The PfmdrI marker was established by the nested PCR and gene involved in the metabolism of antimalarial by conventional PCR. The RFLP-PCR technique allowed the detection of the polymorphism of these mutations. The restriction enzyme bclI was used for the polymorphisms of the cyp2C8 gene and the restriction enzyme AflIII for PfmdrI . Results: the mutant allele CYP2C8*2 had a frequency of 38%. For the Pfmdr1 gene, 57% of isolates were detected with the mutant 86Y. The application of the Khi2 statistical test showed that patients with the mutant allele CYP2C8*2 were more likely to be infected with the pfmdrI -86Y mutant strain (OR: 2,446; P: 0.030). Conclusion: This study reported that the mutant allele CYP2C8*2 influences the emergence of Pfmdr1 86Y mutants.","PeriodicalId":7857,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Biomedical and Life Sciences","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78619100","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
