Results showed that this range of stimulation has no effect on latency or post reading response time, but that the curve of amplitude vs. accommodative stimulation has three segments, a plateau in the middle separating two positively linear curves. A separation of at least 2.00 D of accommodative stimulation is required for a difference in mean amplitude to appear.","PeriodicalId":78011,"journal":{"name":"American journal of optometry and archives of American Academy of Optometry","volume":"50 5","pages":"395-8"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1973-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1097/00006324-197305000-00005","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"15621395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many of these patients experience spectacle blur during this transition period. This study was designed to investigate the changes associated with spectacle blur and evaluate procedures that will provide proper vision during this transition period. We measured the corneal curvature, clarity, and health, the refractive error, and the resultant visual acuity on five long‐term contact lens patients (10 eyes) after removal of their old contact lenses. Two patients were given the best spectacle prescription possible. One patient was refitted immediately with new polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) lenses which produced minimum corneal disturbance, while two patients were refitted immediately with Bausch & Lomb Soflens™ contact lenses. The patients wearing spectacles showed the most rapid return to normal (16 to 22 days). However, they did not have proper vision during this period. The patients refitted with polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) lenses or soft lenses took somewhat longer to recover (21 to 34 days), but they did have satisfactory vision during the entire transition period. Any of these procedures, if monitored properly, can be used to aid the patient with spectacle blur. The procedure used would depend on the individual patient and his needs.","PeriodicalId":78011,"journal":{"name":"American journal of optometry and archives of American Academy of Optometry","volume":"50 4","pages":"293-8"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1973-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1097/00006324-197304000-00003","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"15613109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
