The main objective of this research focused on chitosan-fatty acid derivatized matrix for drug delivery. Saturated fatty acids (lauric acid and stearic acid) as well as unsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid and linoleic acid) are involved in this study which enhance the chemical properties of chitosan in drug delivery and enhance the permeability of ciprofloxacin drug compounds. The structure of the synthesized derivatives was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Intercalation and in vitro release of ciprofloxacin was investigated by UV spectrophotometrically. All the prepared chitosan derivatives showed a potent antimicrobial activity. It was observed that the release study of drug was maximum at the beginning and then released slowly. The initial burst release of drug may be due to the drug which exists on the surface of the film without being trapped efficiently. Chitosan linoleic ciprofloxacin composite (CS-Lin-CF) showed 52% drug release, chitosan stearic ciprofloxacin composite (CS-S-CF) showed 53.2% drug release and chitosan lauric ciprofloxacin composite (CS-L-CF) showed 63.1% drug release, chitosan oleic ciprofloxacin composite (CS-Ol-CF) showed 79.1% drug release at 8 hours.","PeriodicalId":7687,"journal":{"name":"Al-Azhar Bulletin of Science","volume":"21 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83992756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Preferable pH for elimination of these ions was 5.5. For radiation stability, bentonite-Ca-alginate was investigated; a Co source was used to expose it to gamma radiation. Data obtained from (FT-IR) assessed radiation-induced effect on a stability of bentonite-Ca-alginate. Irradiated samples untill 100 kGy do not impair an absorption of an ions examined. In a column application, bentonite-Ca-alginate composite beads were examined for the discharge of these ions from multicomponent solution using fixed-bed column. Effect on column output of various parameters, like bed height, flow rate and initial inlet concentration were investigated. The column performance was 49, 46, 47 and 46.6% for Cs, Sr, UO2 and Co, respectively at flow rate of 0.5mL/min, 3cm bed depth and initial metal concentration, 50mg/L for each element. Thomas and Yoon-Nelson models identified a breakthrough curves, which successfully predict breakthrough adsorption curves.","PeriodicalId":7687,"journal":{"name":"Al-Azhar Bulletin of Science","volume":"79 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80132912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The prepared bio-adsorbent was distinguished via Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX), Brunner-Emmett-Teller surface area (BET) analyzer, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Chitosan implemented for U(VI) adsorption, and the studied parameters that are pH, time of contact, initial concentration, and temperature, were determined by batch technique. The maximum uptake of CS adsorbent is 88.0 mg/g at 200 mg/L initial U(VI) concentration, pH 3.5, and 25 °C. The kinetic information agreed with the pseudo-second-order model, which considered the attendance of chemisorption. The equilibrium of adsorption reaction gained within 50 min, and equilibrium information well satisfaction for Langmuir model confirmed that U(VI) adsorbed at chitosan monolayer coverage area. Also, the chitosan bio-adsorbent was indeed regenerated by 1M H2SO4 and 1/50 S/L ratio for 75 min of contact. Seven rounds of adsorption-desorption investigations attended to scrutinize the working applicability and renewed application of the bio-adsorbent.","PeriodicalId":7687,"journal":{"name":"Al-Azhar Bulletin of Science","volume":"95 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80742867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
