In this way it has been possible to develop new drugs that can be useful in the treatment of parkinsonian patients such as piribedil, ergot alkaloid derivatives and to obtain evidence that not only dopa but also m-tyrosine can be a powerful antiparkinsonian agent.

","PeriodicalId":76322,"journal":{"name":"Pharmacology & therapeutics. In this study the dopaminergic and cholinergic mechanisms in the neostriatum and their interaction has been evaluated. The results underline the important role the nigro-neostriatal DA neurons play in locomotor performance and in inducing stereotyped activity. The evidence suggest that the neostriatal cholinergic terminals can partly antagonize the behavioral effects of DA receptor stimulation in the neostriatum.

","PeriodicalId":76322,"journal":{"name":"Pharmacology & therapeutics.
