The motivation of our study is to study the microbiota of the peri-cloacal region of budgerigars as a factor in changing the convalescence of basic and concomitant symptoms in the treatment of knemidocoptosis of budgerigars with the use of probiotics. We investigated the effect of the probiotic preparation Vetom 1 on the microflora's quantitative composition of the peri-cloacal area of budgerigars. The drug's effect impacted the dynamics of convalescence of individual symptoms and their correlations in the complex therapy of Knemidocoptes, accompanied by digestive disorders. The product contains one ×106 CFU/g of Bacillus subtilis DSM 32424. The poultry groups were supplemented with Vetom 1 at 50 mg/kg body weight daily for ten days. The experimental and control groups were treated with a 0.05% \"Aversectin\" ointment on the areas affected by Knemidocoptes and Ringer-Locke and Vitam solutions intramuscularly. It was established that the biotic preparation of Vetom 1 shortens the convalescence period of the diarrheal syndrome in budgerigars during the treatment of Knemidocoptes. Vetom 1 does not affect the duration and rate of convalescence of desquamative perinasal dermatitis of budgies. Vetom 1 modulates the microbiocenosis of the pericloacal area.","PeriodicalId":7561,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Animal and Veterinary Sciences","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135200925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The work aimed to study the opisthorchiasis infestation in domesticated carnivores (dogs and cats), fish of the Cyprinidae family, and mollusks to identify their infestation status. The study was carried out in the coastal villages of the Ural River in the West Kazakhstan region in 2021-2022. It was found that the infestation extensity of Opisthorchis felineus infestation averaged 89.7% and the infestation intensity was 19.6±1.6 units/animal in dogs and 97.9% and 34.4±2.9 units/animal in cats, respectively. A high fish infestation by O. felineus metacercariae in the family Cyprinidae was noted. The infestation extensity and infestation intensity averaged 70.4% and 22.6 metacercariae/specimen, respectively. The maximum infestation rates were recorded in the ide. During the study of fish infestation with Opisthorchis metacercariae, an increase in infestation with age was found. The maximum infestation intensity in ide reached 340 metacercariae per specimen at 3 years. The population density of mollusks of the genus Bithyniidae in the reservoirs of the middle Urals basin was 5.1 specimens/m2 and the infestation with O. felineus cercariae was 5.7%. The epizootological conditions of the middle Urals basin were unfavorable concerning the opisthorchiasis infestation. In the coastal settlements of the Ural River, domesticated carnivores are infested with O. felineus. In the reservoirs of the middle Urals basin, fish from the family Cyprinidae and mollusks and the genus Bithyniidae are infested with Opistorchis larvae.","PeriodicalId":7561,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Animal and Veterinary Sciences","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135200922","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Farmers tend to sell the milk produced in the form of fresh milk rather than processed products. This condition causes low competitiveness of dairy products and the difficulty of dairy products penetrating the modern market. This study aims to identify factors that determine competitiveness and formulate strategies that can be done to improve the competitiveness of dairy products. This research was conducted on dairy farms in west Sumatra Province, Indonesia. The method used was the survey method. The variables used to identify factors affecting competitiveness were based on Porter's diamond model and Porter's five forces model and alternative strategies were formulated based on Porter's generic strategies analyzed by Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). Based on the results of the analysis, the factors that affect the competitiveness of dairy products are human resources, capital resources, technology, competitor advantages, and power of suppliers, thus there are five factors that determine the competitiveness of milk. Based on the research results, the highest factor affecting competitiveness is technology while the lowest value is the power of suppliers. At the actor level, cooperatives play an important role in improving the competitiveness of dairy products. Then the priority strategy that can be chosen to improve competitiveness is to do product differentiation through new product innovation.","PeriodicalId":7561,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Animal and Veterinary Sciences","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135200926","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Estimated Breeding Value (EBV) of the productive indicators of animals of the Kazakh white-headed breed was determined for 2018-2021. The index values were further interpreted as an assessment of the own genetic productivity of each evaluated animal relative to the corresponding average values. For the Kazakh white-headed breed, the estimated breeding values in terms of live weight at birth in 2018 ranged from -8.00 to +12.91, in 2019 from -8.02 to +19.42, in 2020 from -9.96 to -0.96, in 2021 -9.87 to +19.91. The values by the indicator of live weight at weaning in 2018 ranged from -8.63 to +57.39, in 2019 from -23.27 to +57.31, in 2020 from 23.97 to - +57.29, in 2021 -24.37 to +57.26. The estimated breeding value in terms of live weight at one year of age in 2018 varied in the range from -51.37 to +58.26, in 2019 -58.53 to +72.10, in 2020 -57.77 to +71.43, in 2021 -52.73 to +72.00. The breeding value in terms of live weight for adult animals in 2018 ranged from -50.60 to +43.19, in 2019 -135.95 to +118.86, in 2020 from -138.04 to +121.82, in 2021 from -140.56 to +112.43. The breeding value by the milking capacity of mothers of the Kazakh white-headed breed in 2018 ranged from -35.55 to +33.79, in 2019 -8.85 to +46.67, in 2020 from -27.41 to +46.68, in 2021 from -30.26 to +46.65. The accuracy for the EBV of productive indicators of Kazakh white-headed breed animals was 0.004-0.999 by live weight at birth, 0.001-0.998 at weaning, 0.002-0.998 at 12 months, and 0.001-0.965 for adult animals. The estimated breeding value of dairy cows is 0.018-0.990. The features of the distribution of the indices of breeding value of the average daily increase of animals of the Kazakh white-headed breed in 2021 have been clarified. For the Kazakh white-headed cattle breed, the estimated breeding values in terms of the average daily gain from birth to 12 months of age are in the range from -183.56 to +813.34.","PeriodicalId":7561,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Animal and Veterinary Sciences","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47433982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a randomized block design, three treatment groups of six replications each contained 18 calves. Treatments included 0% SO-Ca (control/T0), 5% SO-Ca (T1), and 10% SO-Ca (T2). The diet of each treatment (Concentrate mix and Napier grass) used in the study was formulated based on the usual ration given to the cattle with energy levels approximately the same between treatments. Analysis of variance was used to assess the data and the Tukey Test was then used to determine whether there were any significant differences between the treatments. The findings demonstrated that the addition of SO-Ca up to 10% lowered (p≤0.01) the total protozoa population but had no effect on the overall bacterial population. The fraction of propionate increased (p = 0.03) and the concentration of NH3 tends to rise (p = 0.10). However, the addition of SO-Ca up to 10% reduced the proportion of acetate (p = 0.045), butyrate (p = 0.03), C2/C3 ratio (p = 0.02) and tended to reduce valerate (p = 0.1) and methane estimation (p = 0.06). Blood metabolites, performance, and rumen pH were comparable between treatments. The addition of SO-Ca tends to lower the cholesterol level (p = 0.10). In conclusion, the addition of SO-Ca improves propionate proportions and reduces methane estimation as well as cholesterol levels, which are both positive impacts on rumen fermentation.","PeriodicalId":7561,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Animal and Veterinary Sciences","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135200921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hydrops is a rare condition and treatment is usually focused on saving the mare. This case report describes the successful management of hydrops of the fetal membranes diagnosed in an Anglo-Argentine mare at 316 days of gestation, which resulted in a live foal. The mare was treated with broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy (30 mg/kg twice a day sulfadiazine-trimethoprim per os), an anti-inflammatory (flunixin meglumine 1.1 mg/kg once a day Intravenously (IV)), plus progestin’s (altrenogest 0.44 mg/kg once daily per os) at day 328 of pregnancy, an immature foal was delivered and was immediately treated with antibiotics (ampicillin 10-20 mg/kg three times a day IV and amikacin 25-30 mg/kg once a day IV), antiacid therapy (ranitidine 1.5-2 mg/kg IV twice a day), as well as hyperimmune plasma and fluid therapy. Oxygen therapy was introduced while the foal was asleep. A commercial IgG blood test confirmed the passage of immunoglobulins. The histological architecture of the placenta revealed that both the amnion and allantois cavities were involved. This report describes one of the few hydrops pregnancy cases reported with a positive outcome for both the mare and foal. Early suspicion was found to be crucial for the positive outcome, enabling rapid hospitalization for the monitoring, treatment, and supportive care of both the mare and foal.","PeriodicalId":7561,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Animal and Veterinary Sciences","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135201160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
