We report a retrospective study of 6 cases of hydatid cyst of soft tissues. The mean age of our patients was 36 years (range: 25 and 63 years) and the sex-ratio was 5 females to 1 male. The clinical symptoms consisted in a mass which had been present for a mean of 12 months. Plain X-rays showed a water density mass with no associated bone lesions. Ultrasonography and computed tomography defined the features of the hydatid cysts, which were situated in muscle in 5 cases and in the subcutaneous tissue in 1 case. Their dimensions varied between 1.5 and 25 cm. All types of Gharbi's classification were observed. Secondary hydatid cysts outside of the soft tissues were observed in 2 patients. Medical imaging, essentially ultrasonography, was suggestive of the diagnosis. Computed tomography provided more precise information concerning the number, site and morphology of the lesions and was able to eliminate neoplastic disease.
","PeriodicalId":75506,"journal":{"name":"Annales de radiologie","volume":"39 3","pages":"135-41"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"20111364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"[Leiomyosarcoma of the inferior vena cava and magnetic resonance imaging].","authors":"N Kabbaj, R Dafiri, F Imani","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

Venous leiomyosarcomas are rare and predominantly arise in the inferior vena cava (IVC). The clinical findings, often not very suggestive and nonspecific, sometimes precede the diagnosis by several years. According to the literature, leiomyosarcoma of the IVC generally occurs in middle-aged women. Modern imaging techniques, especially magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can now establish the diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma of the IVC with a high probability and allow assessment of operability. The authors report a case of leiomyosarcoma of the IVC in a 24-year-old male patient, confirmed by intravenous biopsy. They present the MR features of this malignant tumour, rarely reported in the literature, and emphasize the value of this examination in the operability staging. The 3D imaging provided by MRI allows intra and extraluminal staging and involvement of adjacent organs. It also allows optimal evaluation of the effects on flow, circulatory slowing or thrombosis and, due to its high contrast resolution, it is more sensitive to distinguish clot from tumour nodule.
","PeriodicalId":75506,"journal":{"name":"Annales de radiologie","volume":"39 4-5","pages":"188-92"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"20556449","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The diagnosis of acute renal colic is usually performed with ultrasound or excretory urography whereas parenchymal involvement in renal infection is best demonstrated on computed tomography images. The aim of radiologic investigations is to look for complications in order to guide the treatment, particularly percutaneous procedures. Other less common acute renal diseases include renal vein thrombosis optimally analyzed with contrast injection to demonstrate renal function, and spontaneous renal hemorrhage, which implies careful renal assessment looking for a small tumor. Acute psoas compartment diseases include hematomas and abscesses. Computed tomography is the best diagnostic tool and the examination of choice for the follow-up lesions and to guide percutaneous drainage.
","PeriodicalId":75506,"journal":{"name":"Annales de radiologie","volume":"39 2","pages":"72-7"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"19765357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm is always fatal without urgent operative repair. Computed tomography is the reference standard for the diagnosis of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm in hemodynamically stable patients. At CT, the diagnosis is based on the combination of abdominal aortic aneurysm and extraluminal retroperitoneal blood. Retroperitoneal hemorrhage usually demonstrates both isodense and hyperdense areas. In most cases hemorrhage is located in psoas compartments and perirenal space. In the case of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm other findings may be demonstrated such as focal interruption of the aortic wall and active extravasation of contrast media in the retroperitoneal compartments. Inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysm, that may present as acute abdominal pain, should be recognized and differentiated from ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm. Inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysm is characterized by a fibrotic process around the abdominal aorta that may entrap adjacent structures such as ureters, duodenum and inferior vena cava. Aortic dissection, mycotic aneurysm, and inferior vena cava thrombosis are less common. Complications occurring after emergency aneurysm replacement are also considered.
","PeriodicalId":75506,"journal":{"name":"Annales de radiologie","volume":"39 2","pages":"78-88"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"19765358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
