The maximum daily dose for this indication is 75 mg. When used in recommended doses by patients without significant risk factors, serious side effects appear to occur infrequently. The pharmacist has an important role in preventing misuse and abuse of phenylpropanolamine through counseling the patient about its appropriate, short-term (not exceeding 12 weeks) use in a comprehensive weight-reduction program. Patients should be alerted to signs and symptoms of serious adverse reactions and advised to discontinue use if any reactions appear.","PeriodicalId":75481,"journal":{"name":"American pharmacy","volume":"NS30 10 1","pages":"47-50"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44423724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After a historical perspective, it describes the symptoms, caseness, and clinical presentations to aid in diagnosis. Epidemiology and aetiology of the disease are both covered, and specific investigations for diagnosis are outlined. The course and prognosis are discussed, and management principles are covered. Both inpatient and outpatient treatment are covered. Treatment methods for depression both with and without psychotic features are defined, and treatment-resistant depression management is also discussed. Antidepressants, including schedules for swapping or stopping drugs, are covered, including tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), as well as assorted other pharmaceutical interventions. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is covered in detail.","PeriodicalId":75481,"journal":{"name":"American pharmacy","volume":"35 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"61653127","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Analysis of 100 prescription orders dispensed detected 24 dispensing errors, of which 4 were clinically significant. Oral counseling was provided to 64 of the patients, covering an average of 3 of the 14 categories of drug information that the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990 (OBRA '90) requires pharmacists to consider when counseling Medicaid patients. In addition to prescriber's label instructions, pharmacists provided written counseling information, including auxiliary labels and receipts, to 98% of the patients, but it covered only an average of six OBRA '90 categories.
