Some perspectives on professional involvement in health programs].","authors":"S Pérez Mendoza, S V Ascanio","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"<p><p>Action Community regarding health is but part of a long-term project started out back in the 1960. As far as Latin America was concerned the so-called experience did not work out; notwithstanding, it has become an Attention-Getter among the countries of the area once again. How so? Because of the Primary-Approach. Understood as an approach based on the global development of society, self-involvement lies at the cornerstone of the whole process. The health section gives full measure of the primary-approach theoretical framework and propose alternatives to get it of the ground. Professionals from the health section aim at \"self-involvement\" as activity performed willingly. Besides as it were, it should be supervised by experts. Nowadays the venezuelan government promotes action community claiming it will endorse the Primary-Approach on health granted the national health system bill is approved. Amid such context dentistry most meet the challenge of upcoming changes, so must fellow-dentists who, in the end, will dominate center stage. The process must narrow down to actions with will stem from its own dynamics along the way. Needless to say, these actions can not be easily foreseen, let alone do they guarantee success.</p>","PeriodicalId":75401,"journal":{"name":"Acta odontologica venezolana","volume":"28 2-3","pages":"5-7"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13286386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mycoplasmas migrate from these anatomical sites to the saliva and to entire oral cavity. The purpose of this report was to examine whether differences exist in the incidence and concentration of mycoplasma as determined in the saliva of thirty (30) PP and fifty (50) individuals with HG. Saliva samples were obtained from both groups, with capillary tubes and cotton swabs, and used for mycoplasma isolation and quantification. The methods employed were those recommended by the Centers for Diseases Control (CDC Atlanta, Georgia). The results showed an 80% mycoplasma incidence in group PP and 50% HG, with the following concentrations: 5.0 x 10(3) to 8.0 x 10(6) Colony Forming Units/ml (CFU/ml) in PP, and 3.0 x 10(3) to 4.5 x 10(4) UFC/ml in the HG (P less than 0.001). We conclude the both mycoplasma incidence and concentration were higher in PP than in HG individuals.</p>","PeriodicalId":75401,"journal":{"name":"Acta odontologica venezolana","volume":"28 2-3","pages":"81-7"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13286391","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has basically been detected in immunosuppressed male homosexuals and it is associated with the later development of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) or HIV infection. Epstein-Barr virus has been suggested to be the possible etiological agent. A review of the existing literature pointing out definition, clinical, histopathologic and ultrastructural features, prognostic and treatment is made.
