The biological properties of the pathogens isolated from urine and their manifestation with clinical symptoms are discussed. The role of incorrectly prescribed antibiotics in changing the characteristic symptoms and thus making diagnosis difficult is stressed. It appears from the material that in 20% of the operated patients all x-ray and laboratory tests gave negative results, despite the fact that in the course of operation abscesses were detected under the renal capsule. In 60% of the cases x-rays supplied reliable information for the indication of surgical intervention. The history of fever and shaking fits and the progression revealed by careful observation of the patients are considered the most important information needed for deciding for surgery.</p>","PeriodicalId":75376,"journal":{"name":"Acta chirurgica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae","volume":"23 4","pages":"235-41"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1982-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"18201266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method is used for the removal of adenomas of more than 30 g weight. Consequently, it is considered important to exactly determine the size of the adenoma and its relation to the neighbouring organs. The decrease in the number of complications, as well as the shorter time of operation and of postoperative care are attributed to the surgical method modified by the authors which involves the use of synthetic multifilament continuous suture pulling together the edges of the base of the prostate, a three-bore catheter placed with its balloon into the bladder, washing of the bladder in a closed system, mobilization of the patient on the first postoperative day, application of easily absorbed synthetic threads and early removal of the catheter.
