Although there are many determinants of work engagement within organizations, the present study explored the association between meaning of work, satisfaction with life, happiness and work engagement.Material and Method: The self-determination theory was adopted to extrapolate the relationship amongst variables. A self-administered questionnaire was used to measure meaning of work, satisfaction with life, happiness and work engagement.  The study sample comprised of 142 nurses employed at public sector hospitals in Windhoek, Namibia. Pearson correlation coefficient and regression were used to analyze data.Results: The results showed a negative relationship between meaning of work and subjective happiness; meaning of work had no significantly relationship to satisfaction with life; Satisfaction with life was statistically related to subjective happiness; and a negative significant relationship between meaning of work and work engagement. Happiness and meaning of work had a significant relationship; work engagement was related to subjective happiness.  Employee engagement accounted for a 15% variation to the relationship.Conclusion: Regular interactions with the nurses is necessary to have the opportunity to consider individual needs some nurses need extra training in certain procedures, job resources such as social support from colleagues and supervisors, performance feedback, skill variety, autonomy, and learning opportunities are advocated for.","PeriodicalId":74991,"journal":{"name":"The East African health research journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86461268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Global numbers are growing and aims on reduction are not met. The application of ‘Trans-Theoretical’ (TTM) and ‘Theory of Planned Behavior’ (TPB) models on smoking may provide assistance on reduction and maintenance.Aim: Therefore, a systematic review of the current literature took place in order to evaluate and compare the efficacy of TTM and TPB against smoking. The outcome may assist field practitioners in their designs and practice.Methods: An electronic research was conducted in 5 electronic databases. 3,871 initial titles were located and retrieved. The titles retrieved were then accessed using inclusion/exclusion criteria and then were evaluated using 10 main criteria to answer and meet the research aims.Results: Research for titles resulted in the inclusion of 10 studies, of which 5 used TTM and 5 TPB as a behavior change model on smoking cessation. The quality and efficacy of papers was almost identical, while only one out of the overall 10 studies was efficient on smoking cessation.Conclusion: The review may provide some strong implications on low efficacy for both TTM and TPB, while there might be a need for new change-of-behavior models against smoking.Practitioners who design individual interventions against smoking may have to seek for alternative to TTM and TPB models of behavior change.","PeriodicalId":74991,"journal":{"name":"The East African health research journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87257715","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Low and high frequency ultrasound is used to treat various types of chronic ulcers including venous, diabetic and pressure ulcers.Aim: The aim of the present systematic review was to investigate the effectiveness of ultrasound in promoting the healing of pressure ulcers.Method and Material: A systematic review was carried out in the electronic databases PubMed and Cochrane Library. Inclusion criteria were primary and secondary studies, whose sample were patients with pressure ulcers, regardless of age, published in English language of the last decade (2008-2018).Results: The review revealed 5 articles that met the inclusion criteria. The results of these studies showed an advantage in the use of ultrasound for the treatment of pressure ulcers in relation to the standard wound care only.Conclusions: The use of ultrasound seems to be a process which improves and accelerates the healing of pressure ulcers. The method of low and high frequency ultrasound in the treatment of chronic wounds, presents many advantages. It appears to be easy to use, painless, less stressful and better accepted by patients.","PeriodicalId":74991,"journal":{"name":"The East African health research journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82001073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
