The Case of GRM in SGR Project in Tanzania","authors":"Emmanuel Elifadhili Mchome, Uwezo Wilbard Nzoya","doi":"10.4236/jss.2023.1110030","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4236/jss.2023.1110030","url":null,"abstract":"Grievance Redress Mechanisms (GRM) are prepared within a framework of the International Financial Institutions (IFI) requirement for implementation of development projects in the developing countries. However, the established GRM are not used by most of the Affected Persons (AP). This study explored development of GRM and find-out how they are used for the purpose of improvement. The study employed qualitative research approach of which qualitative data collection methods such as interviews, focus group discussion, public meetings and socio-economic surveys were applied. The SGR Electrification Project from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma with a total of 2932 AP was selected as a case study. The methods used for data collection involved the use of tablets installed with Open Data Kit (ODK) to cover all the APs. From ODK, these data were received from ODK Server in excel format, cleaned and exported to SPSS files for analysis. The findings show that 26% of the APs use the established GRM to lodge their grievances of which 94% of them did not receive feedback and there is no communication. Also, about 99% of the grievances are related with compensation. Thus, the AP found alternative ways by using procedural methods used in land acquisition and compensation for addressing of their complaints. Likewise, pastoralists used community and traditional methods for communication and addressing grievances. It is concluded that GRM prepared according to IFI requirements are not used as intended. It is therefore, recommended to improve the GRM by integrating procedural methods of settling disputes used in land acquisition and compensation, integrating community and traditional dispute settlement mechanisms, improved representation of AP in the GRC and reduction of time required for GRM process and feedback.","PeriodicalId":74353,"journal":{"name":"Open journal of social sciences","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135261426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two important dimensions worthy of examination are political orientation and gender. Based on Moral Foundation Theory (Graham et al., 2009), the present study examined how both of the aforementioned factors influence the moral dimensions used in political decisions. Participants (n = 338) completed a demographic survey, rated their self-perceived political orientation and then completed the Moral Relevance Scale (Graham, Haidt, & Nosek, 2009) and the Ideological Consistency Scale (Pew Research Center, 2014), which was used to place participants in liberal, moderate or conservative political orientation groups. A MANOVA showed no differences in participants based on gender, but significant differences in decision-making based on political ideology. Discussion focused on how moderates differ in their views from other ideologies, a relatively new finding.","PeriodicalId":74353,"journal":{"name":"Open journal of social sciences","volume":"2013 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135496606","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Effectively assisting college graduates in developing a realistic perspective on profession choice and overcoming the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic is of utmost practical importance in this regard. In certain ways, the notion of career choice as it is embodied in the thesis is Marx’s own epistemological expression of the social reality. This is evident in Karl Marx’s “Reflectiones de un juvene sur le selection de un profession”, which profoundly reflects Marx’s wisdom and consideration about the issue of choice of occupation. This thesis employs a Marxist epistemological framework to sort out and explain the ideological underpinnings of Marx’s perspective on job choice and explore the philosophical enlightenment for the career choice of college students in the post-epidemic era.","PeriodicalId":74353,"journal":{"name":"Open journal of social sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135008214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study is organized in three axes, in addition to the introduction, results and references. The first axis deals with the concept of identity—by examining the theoretical text of this concept—and reviews the state of conflict between the Palestinian self and the Israeli other in establishing identity in the Bedouin village of Al-Araqib. The second axis addresses the issue of identity in the Palestinian collective consciousness, and the third axis displays the relationship between memory and the collective consciousness in the Palestinian social system.","PeriodicalId":74353,"journal":{"name":"Open journal of social sciences","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135056975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
