Here we assessed the potential deterrent effect of parsley (Petroselinum crispum) formulations on immature stages of the African malaria vector, Anopheles gambiae s.l. In vitro bioassays were performed to evaluate egg-hatching reduction and larval mortality induced 24 hours post exposure at various concentrations by crude powder, methanol extract and essential oil of parsley leaves. Plant powder and methanol extract were rich in alkaloids, saponins and phenolic compounds, while myristicine (67.1%) was the main compound in essential oil. Parsley induced 19-75% egg hatching reduction, 4388% overall larval reduction and 26-77% mortality on 3rd and 4th instars, with significant variations by formulations and concentrations. Essential oil (LC50=0.011-0.014 mg/mL, LC95=0.12-0.26 mg/mL) showed low effective concentrations against An. coluzzii larvae compared with the methanol extract (LC50=0.17-0.20 mg/mL, LC95=5.44-6.54 mg/mL). These findings provide evidences that P. crispum formulations, especially essential oil might be identified among new potential plant-based products to evaluate towards alternative tools for malaria vector control.","PeriodicalId":73740,"journal":{"name":"Journal of environmental science and public health","volume":"246 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69349276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This colossal indiscriminate production caters to the unregulated demand for plastic-made consumer products (including covid-19 masks, shields, gloves and protective medical gears), utilized on a daily basis, consequently leading to increased production and leaching of plasticizers, which are added to improve the quality of plastics and associated products. These plasticizing chemicals are also worryingly used in food processing and packaging industry [4] leading to increased migration into food items and human body through ingestion, inadvertently exposing the population to their endocrine and immune-disrupting properties. Moreover, recent evidence of increasing human, wildlife and marine contamination with micro-plastics, microbeads and nano-plastics [5-9], which are also deliberately added to several consumer and personalcare items such as toothpaste and cosmetics, and are detectable in table salt, tea bags, fish, shellfish and seaweed, industrially processed, packaged and canned food, have incrementally contributed to the gargantuan problem of plastic ingestion and chemical toxicity.","PeriodicalId":73740,"journal":{"name":"Journal of environmental science and public health","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69349228","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: This is a retrospective cross-sectional and descriptive study from January 2016 to December 2018 carried out among inmates with tuberculosis treated in the Results: Out of 3,000 male inmates, eighty-seven (87) cases of tuberculosis were diagnosed. More than half of the prisoners treated were cured (78.2%), five (05) died (5.7%), twelve (12) (13.8%) were transferred and two (02) were lost sight of (2.3%). The highest proportion of cure was observed in tuberculosis patients aged 35 and over, with a normal weight at the time of diagnosis, working in the tertiary sector and having carried out the three controls during treatment. The highest mortality rate was recorded among tuberculosis patients who underwent medical evacuation (100%). Conclusion: The socio-demographic parameters, the conditions of detention and the quality of care constitute both a risk factor for the onset of the disease and a factor for the success or failure of the treatment.","PeriodicalId":73740,"journal":{"name":"Journal of environmental science and public health","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69349303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This topic is directly concerned with the roles of the government and mining corporations responsible for taking accountability for the employees and indigenous people in the area affected by lead pollution as a consequence of mining. The aim of the present paper is to demonstrate the main points of the consequences of environmental lead pollution in the context of environmental justice. As mining scales become enlarged, there needs to have more support for the disproportionate people and low-economic citizens suffering from potential lead pollution, and it is essential to give awareness to those people. This study also highlights situations in Myanmar and the feasible solutions regarding mining and lead pollution.","PeriodicalId":73740,"journal":{"name":"Journal of environmental science and public health","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69348898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
