Mice are the most frequently used animal model to study the pathogenesis and molecular mechanisms of atherosclerosis. <i>En face</i> analyses of the aorta and cross-sections of the aortic root are the two common modes for quantifying the severity of atherosclerosis in mice. This mini-review introduces these two methods, discusses their pros and cons, and provides suggestions to optimize the quantification of atherosclerosis, thereby enhancing rigor and reproducibility in preclinical research.</p>","PeriodicalId":73176,"journal":{"name":"Global translational medicine","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9345319/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"40669281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
