Therefore, the \u0000electrodeposition was adopted and examined to develop a simple and economical \u0000method for GaN synthesis. GaN films are synthesized on aluminum substrates that \u0000are heat-treated at various temperatures using a low-cost and low-temperature \u0000electrochemical deposition technique. The electrochemical behavior of source \u0000ions in aqueous solutions is examined by cyclic \u0000voltammetry (CV). In the solution at pH 1.5 containing 0.1M \u0000Ga(NO3)3, 2.5 M NH4NO3 and 0.6 M H3BO3, \u0000reduction of gallium and nitrate ions are observed in CV. The presence of \u0000hexagonal GaN and gallium oxide (Ga2O3) phases is \u0000detected for the films deposited on Al substrates at -3.5 mAcm-2 for 3 h. The energy dispersive X-ray and mapping results reveal that Ga, O, and \u0000N coexist in these films. Raman analysis shows hexagonal GaN formation on Al substrates. The changes in the morphology and preferred orientation of GaN were found, which was caused by the reactivity of aluminum surface and the \u0000aluminum oxide layer formed by the heat treatment.

In the present study, the tribological properties of three types of monolayer microcrystalline diamond (MCD) coatings, nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) coatings and dual-layer MCD/NCD coatings sliding against CFRP are investigated under dry lubricated conditions using the rotational friction tester. The coefficients of friction (COF), wear rate and worn surfaces of the contacted surfaces are analyzed for the MCD-CFRP, NCD-CFRP and MCD/NCD-CFRP contacting pairs. The results show that compared with the monolayer MCD and NCD, the bilayer of MCD/NCD coating displays the lowest COF with the value of ~0.13, it is 42% and 55% of the values for MCD and NCD coatings. Due to the rough surfaces of MCD, the wear debris of CFRP on MCD samples exhibits the plowing effect. While for the NCD and MCD/NCD samples, the wear fragments display the planar shapes. The wear rate of CFRP against MCD is more than twice that of CFRP against NCD, due to the excellent loading capacity. While the wear rate of CFRP against MCD/NCD is about twice than that of CFRP-NCD pairs. The bilayer of MCD/NCD combines the excellent advantages of high hardness of MCD and the smooth surface of NCD. It shows the broad application potential for the bilayer coatings.

Many kitchen \u0000appliances are made from SS-304 alloy because of its durability, ease of \u0000cleaning and beautiful finish. However, over the years of continuous usage and cleaning \u0000by detergent bar and abrasive clothes the initial brightness and shine of the \u0000plates and dishes undergo considerable degradation. In this work, we report the \u0000results of a thorough investigation of the physico-chemical characteristics of \u0000the surface regions of both new and old SS-304 plates of known history of \u0000continuous usage to identify the key physical and chemical factors that are \u0000responsible for the loss of shine. Several analytical techniques viz. SEM/EDX, \u0000AFM, XPS, XRD, Reflectance FTIR, Profilometry and Reflectance spectrometry in \u0000the visible region have been used for experimental investigation of surface \u0000structure, morphology, roughness profile, chemical composition and appearance \u0000measurements of several steel samples. In addition, glossmeter has been used to \u0000measure the gloss of the samples at certain specific angles. It seems that \u0000surface roughness is one of the key physical parameters that play an important \u0000role in the reduction of brightness and shine. The other parameter is the \u0000presence of a thin surface film on the steel surface. In order to analyze the experimental \u0000data and to predict the shine and brightness phenomena quantitatively, we have \u0000used Fresnel’s theory to compute first the reflectance from each component of \u0000SS-304 alloy assuming it to be a smooth surface and then extended it to compute \u0000the reflectance of the alloy surface (SS-304). In order to interpret the \u0000reflectance from old and used plates, we have further used Beckmann’s theory of light \u0000scattering from random rough surface to analyze and predict the appearance aspects of the alloy \u0000surface quantitatively. Both the experimental and computed results show good \u0000agreement, thus validating the reflectance model used for computing the \u0000reflectance from SS-304 alloy surface and the appropriateness of Beckmann’s \u0000model of random rough surface.

They occur in rivers as well as ponds and balance the pH level of water. But these sources of water are contaminated by effluents, pollutants, acid rain, particulates, biological wastes etc. They can change the pH of water. Water is absorber of carbon dioxide and it converts carbon dioxide into carbonic. Other above mentioned wastes also increase the concentration of H+ ions in water. They produce hostile environment for snails. The outer part of snails is made of CaCO3. It produces chemical reaction in acidic medium and corrosion reaction is accelerated, and thus deterioration starts on the surface of snails. This medium makes their survival become miserable. For this work, corrosion of the snails’ study in the pH values of water is 6.5 in H2CO3 environment. The corrosion rates of snails were calculated by gravimetric methods and potentiostat technique. Aloe Vera was used for corrosion protection in acidic medium. The surface adsorption phenomenon was studied by Langmuir isotherm. Aloe Vera formed thin surface film on the interface of snails which adhered with chemical bonding. It was confirmed by activation energy, heat of adsorption, free energy, enthalpy and entropy. The results of surface coverage area and inhibitors efficiency indicated that Aloe Vera developed a strong protective barrier in the acidic medium.

The electrochemical behaviors of Li and Al ions were examined using Pt electrodes in the bath and the deposition mechanism was analyzed by cyclic voltammetry, CV, with an Al reference electrode in the bath. The coexistence of LiCl in the AlCl3-DMSO2 bath inhibited the cathodic current corresponding to Al deposition in the CV experiment. The amount of ca. 500 μmol Al deposits was obtained in constant potential electrolysis for 1 h at –2 V in the bath with 10 mol% AlCl3. However, it decreased to 140 μmol Al in the bath with 10 mol% AlCl3 and 5 mol% LiCl. It was clarified that LiCl addition led to the formation of Li(DMSO2)+ more than the formation of from NMR measurement for the baths. This results in the suppression of Al deposition because LiCl inhibits the formation of complex ions, which is said to be necessary for Al electrodeposition.
