El-Haddad","doi":"10.4236/ait.2022.123004","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4236/ait.2022.123004","url":null,"abstract":"The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technological revolution that has changed everything we do and given us a new perspective on our daily lives, but despite the fact that numerous publications have focused on characterizing the many edges and technologies that make up an IoT system, the IoT ecosystem is still seen as too complex to be recognized as a stand-alone environment due to its significant diversity; hence, the objective of this research is to address such a complex environment in a way that highlights its components and dis-tinguishes them both individually and in relation to their broader context. Therefore, the definition of IoT and its emergence were discussed and organized around the timeline of Internet development phases demonstrating that IoT has been a need that has accompanied the presence of the Internet since its early stages, and then its growth and impact were discussed and highlighted with estimates and numbers. On the technical side, each of the following groups, IoT components, protocols, and architectures, was defined, discussed, and grouped in such a way that their intergroup organization, as well as their placement and contribution to the overall ecosystem, was highlighted. However, blindness generates challenges for them to perform their tasks. Many blind persons use a traditional stick to move around and to perform their tasks. But the obstacles are not detected in traditional stick, it is ineffective for visually impaired people. The blind person has no idea what kind of objects or obstacles are in front of him/her. The blind person has no idea what size the object is or how far away he or she is from it. It is difficult for a blind person to get around. To assist people with vision impairment by making many of their daily tasks simple, comfortable, and organized, they will be able to recognize anything (an obstacle for blind people). A smart stick with mobile application can be used. One of the solutions is a mobile-based Internet of Things solution, which is a stick intended to assist visually impaired people to navigate more easily. It enables blindness and low vision people to navigate and carry out their daily tasks with ease and comfort. A technologically advanced blind stick that enables visually impaired people to move with ease. This paper proposes a system of software and hardware that helps visually impairment people to find their ways in an easy and comfortable way. The proposed system uses smart stick and mobile application to help blind and visually impaired people to identify objects (such as walls, tables, vehicles, people, etc.) in their ways, this can enable them to avoid these objects. In addition, as a result, the system will notify the user through sound from the smartphone. Consequently, the concepts of network slicing enabled by Network Function Virtualization (NFV) have been proposed in the upcoming 5G networks. 5G network slicing allows IoT applications of different QoS requirements to be served by different virtual networks. Moreover, these network slices are equipped with scalability that allows them to grow or shrink their instances of Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) when needed. However, all current research only focuses on scalability on a single network slice, which is the scalability at the VNF level only. Such a design will eventually reach the capacity limit of a single slice under stressful incoming traffic, and cause the breakdown of an IoT system. Therefore, we propose a new IoT scalability architecture in this research to provide scalability at the NS level and design a testbed to implement the proposed architecture in order to verify its effectiveness. For evaluation, three systems are compared for their throughput, response time, and CPU utilization under three different types of IoT traffic, including the single slice scaling system, the multiple slices scaling system and the hybrid scaling system where both single slicing and multiple slicing can be simultaneously applied. Two dominant architectural \u0000approaches for developing IoT systems are mashup-based and model-based \u0000approaches. Mashup approaches use existing services and are mainly suitable for \u0000less critical, personalized applications. Web development tools are widely used \u0000in mashup approaches. Model-based techniques describe a system on a higher \u0000level of abstraction, resulting in very expressive modelling of systems. The \u0000article uses Cisco packet tracer 7.2 version, which consists of four \u0000subcategories of smart things—home, smart city, industrial and power grid, to \u0000design an IoT based control system for a fertilizer manufacturing plant. The \u0000packet tracer also consists of boards—microcontrollers (MCU-PT), and single \u0000boarded computers (SBC-PT), as well as actuators and sensors. The model \u0000facilitates flexible communication opportunities among things—machines, \u0000databases, and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs). Implementation of the IoT \u0000system brings finer process control as the operating conditions are monitored \u0000online and are broadcasted to all stakeholders in real-time for quicker action \u0000on deviations. The model developed focuses on three process plants; steam \u0000raising, nitric acid, and ammonium nitrate plants. Key process parameters are \u0000saturated steam temperature, fuel flowrates, CO and SOx emissions, \u0000converter head temperature, NOx emissions, neutralisation \u0000temperature, solution temperature, and evaporator steam pressure. The \u0000parameters need to be monitored in order to \u0000ensure quality, safety, and efficiency.
