{"title":"Seasonal Changes of the Relationship between Species Richness and Community Biomass in Grassland under Grazing and Exclosure in Horqin Sandy Land,Northern China","authors":"Xiao-an, Zuo, Xueyong, Zhao, Tonghui, Zhang, Shaokun, Wang, Yayong, Luo, Xin, Zhou","doi":"10.3724/SP.J.1226.2013.00177","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3724/SP.J.1226.2013.00177","url":null,"abstract":"This study carried out an analysis of seasonal changes in relationships between vegetation cover,plant density,species richness and above-ground biomass in grassland under grazing and exclosure in Horqin Sandy Land.Results showed that in grassland being grazed and fenced,vegetation cover,richness and biomass were lower in April than those in August,while plant density showed a reverse trend.Vegetation cover over the season was higher in fenced grassland than that in grazed grassland;biomass in June and August was higher in fenced grassland than that in grazed grassland,while plant density in April and June and was lower in fenced grassland than that in grazed grassland.In fenced grassland,the relationship between species richness and biomass was significantly negative in August(p0.01);in grazed grassland,the relationship between plant density and biomass was significantly positive in the April(p0.01) and was significantly negative in August(p0.01).The relationship between plant density and total biomass for dominant species varied with seasonal changes under grazing and exclosure.In grassland under grazing,the relationship between plant density of Cleistogenes squarrosa and biomass was significantly positive in April(p0.01) and was significantly negative in August(p0.01);the relationship between plant density of Artemisia scoparia or Setaria viridis and biomass was significantly negative in August(p0.01);the relationship between plant density of Salsola collina and biomass was significantly positive in April and June(p0.01).In fenced grassland,the relationship between plant density of Lesredeza davurica or Salsola collina and biomass was significantly positive in August(p0.01).These results suggest that long-term grazing,seasonal changes and their interaction significantly influence vegetation cover,plant density and biomass in grassland(p0.05).Long-term grazing also affects the seasonal changes of plant density and biomass of dominant species,which further affects the seasonal relationship between plant density and biomass in grassland.Species competition in fenced grassland results in the seasonal changes of relationship between species richness and biomass.","PeriodicalId":68841,"journal":{"name":"中国沙漠","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69930069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Analysis on the Factors Influencing the Evolution of Desertification in Ningxia of China from 1999 to 2009","authors":"Wang Zhan-jun, Qiu Xin-hua, Tang Zhi-hai, Shi Hai-xia, Zhao Jing-jing","doi":"10.7522/J.ISSN.1000-694X.2013.00046","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.7522/J.ISSN.1000-694X.2013.00046","url":null,"abstract":"With the desertification monitoring data in 1999,2004 and 2009 in Ningxia,we analyzed the evolution of the desertification and its influencing factors in Ningxia.The area of desertification land decreased from 3.2074×106 hm2 in 1999 to 2.8988×106 hm2 in 2009 and reversed obviously during 1999-2009.The area of wind-erosion desertification land decreased from 1.5191×106 hm2 in 1999 to 1.3458×106 hm2 in 2009,and the area of water-erosion desertification land reduced from 1.6572×106 hm2 in 1999 to 1.4897×106 hm2 in 2009,while the area of saline desertification land increased from 3.11×104 hm2 in 1999 to 6.33×104 hm2 in 2009.The area of severe and moderate desertification land decreased obviously from 1.0098×106 hm2 and 1.4270×106 hm2 respectively in 1999 to 2.757×105 hm2 and 1.3838×106 hm2 respectively in 2009,while the area of slight desertification land increased obviously from 7.10×105 hm2 in 1999 to 1.1708×106 hm2 in 2009,so desertification degree weakened obviously.In desertification regions,vegetation cover was improved further and vegetation coverage increased.Among the climate and human factors affecting the evolution trend of desertification,the reversion of desertification was influenced decisively by national policy,comprehensive development and utilization project,establishing and perfecting of various ecological protection measurement and mechanism,public participating in combating desertification,and so on.The negative effect produced by climate change was offset by the positive effect of these human factors.However,the reversion of desertification was slowed down to some extent by the population pressure,the human unreasonable activities in historical period,the inefficient utilization of water resources,and so on.These human factors are the unfavorable factors in combating desertification,which needed to be overcome in the prevention and control of desertification in Ningxia in the future.","PeriodicalId":68841,"journal":{"name":"中国沙漠","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71146449","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
