At present, only a handful of such accounts exist in the literature. Our report describes the novel use of high-flow nasal oxygen therapy for a patient with moderate obstructive sleep apnea who underwent an awake craniotomy under deep sedation. The intraoperative application of high-flow nasal oxygen therapy achieved satisfactory oxygenation, maintained the partial carbon dioxide pressure within a reasonable range even during periods of deep sedation, permitted responsive patient monitoring during mapping, and provided excellent patient and surgeon satisfaction.</p>","PeriodicalId":6824,"journal":{"name":"A&A Case Reports ","volume":"9 12","pages":"353-356"},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2017-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1213/XAA.0000000000000615","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"35236673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Assessment by an otorhinolaryngologist and the results of a magnetic resonance imaging could not clarify the pathology behind these symptoms. Interscalene brachial plexus block-induced ipsilateral hemidiaphragmatic paralysis may not be tolerated in patients with preexisting pulmonary disease.
