This paper proposes the collection of digital substation monitoring information by using DDS, which is a publication/subscription-based real-time communication protocol. The paper shows a network structure of digital substations for collecting monitoring information from each facility by applying DDS. The network structure has multiple search domains that separate power facilities in substations according to their functions. It also presents an object-to-object conversion relationship and DDS object identification system for changing existing IEC 61850 based systems to DDS-based systems. Applying the DDS to digital substations enables dynamic recognition/identification through the DDS discovery protocol and enables collecting only desired monitoring information. We configured an experimental network environment to measure the elapsed times for dynamic recognition and identification of an IED. The experimental network has two different domains. The experiment showed that real-time monitoring is possible. The HMI node can detect in less than 0.7sec when additional IEDs are installed in the substation. This method can be applied to a system where configuration of a power facility dynamically changes, such as a micro grid.","PeriodicalId":6670,"journal":{"name":"2019 54th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"254 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76533770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Particular emphasis is placed on the influence of proportional gain to the efficiency of PS-PWM. Furthermore, an analytical approach which facilitates the calculation of optimal proportional and integral gains of PS-PWM was developed. In addition, a delay compensation method applied in FCS-MPC and PS-PWM is proposed. Simulation results are provided to test the behavior of both modulation strategies considering several operational aspects both in steady state and in transient operation.","PeriodicalId":6670,"journal":{"name":"2019 54th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"78 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78860918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The index IF (Impact Factor) of the Brazilian power quality regulation standard is the evaluation parameter. The fuzzy logic is used to represent the vagueness in the disturbance magnitude and duration measures. The method is used with computationally generated power quality signals. According to the results, the fuzzy assessment seems to be a good method to represent the impact of the disturbances at a consumer taking into account the uncertainties in the measures of voltage magnitude and duration.","PeriodicalId":6670,"journal":{"name":"2019 54th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"29 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82307682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The connection of EG can cause co-ordination of Distance protection to be altered and has resulted in variations in short circuit levels. Multidirectional power flow has been introduced into a Distribution system that was not designed for the direction change in current flow. The impact of connecting EG to a typical 38 kV Distribution Network was demonstrated as part of this study. Increasing fault levels and protection co-ordination selectivity problems were identified when the network was fed as a closed network. The increase in short circuit fault levels was evident when the fault contribution from the EG was considered. This increase in short circuit fault current could be a concern if EG is installed in an area where the maximum current rating of the switchgear could be exceeded. The co-ordination of Distance protection IEDs were also affected when EG was connected. Case studies on a typical Distribution Network were presented as part of this study. The impact that EG can have on the short circuit fault levels and the co-ordination of Distance protection when the network is feeding as a closed loop network was identified. When incorporating EG to a typical 38 kV Distribution Network, considerations must be made to ensure that the connection of the EG does not inhibit the performance of the overall protection system. A protection review of the network is required before any EG is connected. The issues identified the miscoordination of Distance protection IEDs. A revision of current IED settings in the vicinity of the installed EG and the addition of duplicate protection IEDs may be required.","PeriodicalId":6670,"journal":{"name":"2019 54th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"23 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86952307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Impedance-based fault location algorithms are commonly used in fault locators, due to their simplicity. In particular, single-terminal impedance-based algorithms represent a standard feature implemented in digital relays, but they are affected by the different source of errors. In the paper, there is presented a fault location algorithm which uses only the local voltage and current phasors and the parameters of the line to estimate the distance to the fault. The algorithm was tested using simulated fault signals as well as real fault registered signals from the field. The output results were compared with the output results of two established fault location algorithms and they reveal the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed algorithm.","PeriodicalId":6670,"journal":{"name":"2019 54th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"65 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85005197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
