In this paper, a pre-processing step is proposed in order to increase accuracy of classification. The aim of this approach is finding a transformation matrix causes classes to be more discriminable by transforming data into the new space and consequently, increases the classification accuracy. This transformation matrix is computed through two methods based on linear discrimination. In the first method, we use class independent LDA to increase classification accuracy by finding a transformation that maximizes the between-class scatter and minimizes within-class scatter using a transformation matrix. Because LDA cannot obtain optimal transformation, in the second method, Harmony Search is used to increase performance of LDA. Obtained results show that utilization of these pre-processing causes increasing the accuracy of different classifiers.","PeriodicalId":6461,"journal":{"name":"2009 Third Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation","volume":"6 1","pages":"131-135"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74026742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accuracy and transparency are two important criteria that should be satisfied by any classification model. In this paper, a transparent and relatively accurate classifier is developed using a hybrid soft computing technique. The initial fuzzy model is first generated using a clustering method and the transparency and accuracy of the model are then simultaneously optimized using a multi-objective evolutionary technique. The proposed model is tested on two real problems; the first one is related to credit scoring problem while the otheris on medical diagnosis. All the data sets used in this study are publicly available at UCI repository of machine learning database.","PeriodicalId":6461,"journal":{"name":"2009 Third Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation","volume":"67 24","pages":"146-151"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72600267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This can be achieved by painting ships with metamaterial. These materials can bend light around object, making it to appear to an observer as though the waves have passed through empty space. We have developed a method to identify these ships target with the help of image processing. Research on the extraction of ship target in complex sea-sky background has important value to improve the capability of imaging-typed sea navigation and nautical traffic control systems. According to the imaging property of complex sea-sky background, a reliable ship target extraction method is proposed in this paper. The general guide line is that getting the sea-sky division line as a priori knowledge and then the target potential area is determined through discontinuous region of the sea-sky division line. Firstly, a local selective window filter is adopted to filter the image; secondly, eight directions Sobel operator edge detection method and gradient Hough transform are combined to extract sea-sky division line in the image; then a multi-histogram matching technique is adopted to remove the sea and sky background and thus ship target is extracted from complex background. The experiments show that our method has the merits of robustness to noise, small computational complexity and stability.","PeriodicalId":6461,"journal":{"name":"2009 Third Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation","volume":"27 2 1","pages":"533-536"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77845849","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, it can reduce losses, control voltages as well as the protection system. Besides, it is more focused on mitigated a whack-a-mole phenomenon due to its fifth and seventh harmonics. Whack-a-mole phenomenon occurs as an active filter or passive filter installed on the long feeder line. It effect harmonic voltage where increase on some busses and decrease on other busses, especially at point of installation. In this paper, the inverter replaced by directly connected with the current source. Thus, parallels current source with combination of fundamental, third, fifth and seventh harmonic frequencies were tested. From the analysis, the best location of inverter current source should be at least λ/4 from end bus. Thus, it proves by looking into its harmonic voltage, harmonic current and total harmonics distortion (THD) performance.","PeriodicalId":6461,"journal":{"name":"2009 Third Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation","volume":"9 1","pages":"514-519"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77935057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN technology has been developed to provide scalable and low cost network. For telemedicine applications however, the technology does not fulfill the quality of service requirement yet. In order to overcome this problem, a new cross layer design of wireless LAN is proposed.The design is based on IEEE 802.11g standard with modification in datalink and physical layer. This has been implemented in NS2 simulation environment. The simulation has been performed to deliver the video data for telemedicine application. Simulation result shows that the new cross layer design has better network quality of service for PSNR (Peak Signal Noise Ratio) and delay values than the conventional wireless LAN. Thus, the new design has a potential to be used in telemedicine system.","PeriodicalId":6461,"journal":{"name":"2009 Third Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation","volume":"10 1","pages":"264-269"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72876822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To remain competitive, one approach is to tackle the student and administration challenges through the analysis and presentation of data, or data mining. This study presents the results of applying data mining to enrollment data of Sebha University in Libya. The results can be used as a guideline or roadmap to identify which part of the processes can be enhanced through data mining technology and how the technology could improve the conventional processes by getting advantages of it. Two main approaches were used in this study, namely the descriptive and predictive approaches. Cluster analysis was performed to group the data into clusters based on its similarities. For predictive analysis, three techniques have been used Neural Network, Logistic regression and the Decision Tree. The study shows that Neural Network obtains the highest results accuracy among the three techniques.","PeriodicalId":6461,"journal":{"name":"2009 Third Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation","volume":"65 1","pages":"413-418"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76766275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The correlation between the debt ratio of China's state-owned enterprises and GDP growth rate is small, yet the correlation between the debt ratio of China's state-owned enterprises and inflation rate is greater. Meanwhile, the correlations between the debt ratio of China's industrial enterprises and GDP growth rate and inflation rate are all small. Therefore, a credit policy should basically maintain debt ratio at a stable and reasonable level. To curb inflation, the credit policy should focus on compressing the debt ratio of state-owned enterprises; to stimulate economy, the expansionary credit policy should still hold a stable level of debt ratio for enterprises.","PeriodicalId":6461,"journal":{"name":"2009 Third Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation","volume":"128 1","pages":"404-406"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78887664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
