The S-DCTs are extracted from DC images. The proposed method uses a small-size feature, i.e., 48 bits/image, nevertheless, it resulted in neither false-negatives nor false positives. The proposed method can handle common alterations in CBCD application, such as contrast and gamma changing, noise addition, resizing, and a slight shifting. It is confirmed that the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method are superior to those using the MPEG-7 color layout descriptor, one of the smallest image descriptors.","PeriodicalId":6447,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Symposium on Industrial Electronics & Applications","volume":"7 1","pages":"494-499"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85259343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study has been successfully performed under Bragg resonance condition where the initial frequency of the light,W0 has the same value with the Bragg frequency, WB. The Stokes parameter is chosen to provide important information about the total energy and energy difference between the forward and backward propagating modes. The motion of a particle moving is shown with the classic anharmonic potential where the beta, β is set to zero due to power conservation along the grating structures.","PeriodicalId":6447,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Symposium on Industrial Electronics & Applications","volume":"284 1","pages":"355-357"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76844742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Now, efforts are increasingly being directed at exploiting the underlying architecture, in particular, single instruction, multiple data (SIMD) instruction sets. The resilience of motion estimation algorithms to various error metrics allows us to propose new high performance approximate metrics based on the sum of absolute differences (SAD). These new approximate metrics are amenable to efficient branch-free SIMD implementations which yield impressive speed-ups, up to 11:1 in some cases, while sacrificing image quality for less than 0.1 dB on average.","PeriodicalId":6447,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Symposium on Industrial Electronics & Applications","volume":"30 1","pages":"233-238"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80571198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The evaluation of the damage of the skin is assessed on the base of clinical experience of dermatologists. Currently, the assessment of skin surface is made by running a finger across the skin. It is found that this tactile evaluation may result in inter and intra variations. The objective of our research is to develop an objective assessment tool in evaluation skin roughness. Psoriasis is used as a sample of skin lesion that can change skin surface roughness as its extents develop. 3D surface images of 120 psoriasis lesions scanned from 29 patients are analysed in the study. The lesions are previously grouped into four categorises based on its tactile characteristics by dermatologists. The proposed method converts the 3D images into 2D height maps. The 2D height maps are then fitted and filtered using averaging filter. Finally, Mean Square Error (MSE) between the fitted and filtered 2D height maps are computed and utilized as skin roughness descriptors. Results show that the proposed method has been able to differentiate each lesion according to its group perfectly.","PeriodicalId":6447,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Symposium on Industrial Electronics & Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"15-19"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88696019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

K Nearest Neighbor (KNN) is a basic deterministic algorithm for locating which is widely used in fingerprinting approach. The performance of the KNN can be improved extensively by employing appropriate selection algorithm. In this paper, a novel algorithm called Dynamic KNN (D-KNN) which uses Angle of Arrival (AOA) and KNN as a hybrid method is proposed. This method comparing with KNN algorithm with constant K, selects the best number of nearest neighbors dynamically. It utilizes the adaptive antenna system to determine the user locative area by intersection of several obtained AOA. The best K neighbors which are located in the determined area can be selected to employ in the KNN. Analysis and simulation results are reported the best overall performance of D-KNN in different conditions.","PeriodicalId":6447,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Symposium on Industrial Electronics & Applications","volume":"62 1","pages":"722-726"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87024089","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It describes an stand alone algorithm for Speech Enhancement and presents a architecture for the implementation. The traditional Spectral Subtraction method can only suppress stationary acoustic noise from speech by subtracting the spectral noise bias calculated during non-speech activity, while adding the unique option of dynamic moving averaging to it, it can now periodically upgrade the estimation and cope up with changes in noise level. Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) has been tested at different noisy environment and the improvement in SNR certifies the effectiveness of the algorithm. The FPGA implementation presented in this paper, works on streaming speech signals and can be used in factories, bus terminals, Cellular Phones, or in outdoor conferences where a large number of people have gathered. These activities include those which aim to introduce improved quality of services for popular Internet services and applications. In this paper, quality of services (QoS) of video transmission on Differentiated Services (DiffServ) with multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) network is being simulated and evaluated by a network Simulator, OPNET. The need of integration of MPLS with DiffServ particularly for the video traffic has been demonstrated in the simulation. The objective of this work is to study the influence of the QoS mechanism via DiffServ-MPLS on network parameters such as packet loss, delay and throughput for different video resolutions. The comprehensive study showed general improvement in the throughput and packet loss particularly of video transmission when using DiffServ-aware MPLS network as compared to when only MPLS or DiffServ is employed.","PeriodicalId":6447,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Symposium on Industrial Electronics & Applications","volume":"71 1","pages":"963-967"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87635776","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
