The proposed antenna is different from conventional slotted waveguide antennas and other waveguide fed antennas in two folds. Firstly, slots, each loaded with a shorted microstrip patch element and a shorted parasitic element, are placed along the center axis of the waveguide. Secondly, the antenna elements are directly fed by the waveguide, not through aperture coupling. The waveguide is easily realized using substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology. The proposed antenna, operating at 35 GHz, has a wide impedance bandwidth of 10.2% (VSWR <; 2), a maximum gain of around 12 dBi and directional symmetric radiation pattern.","PeriodicalId":6341,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"3 1","pages":"351-354"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87281934","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The array structure is composed with modified dipole elements which are operated at 433 MHz. A dipole element includes branched radiation strip and matching network. The simulation is performed with simplified human body, bolus, and the applicator on FR-4 substrate. The 2×2 array with circularly rotated feeding which rotates the elements clockwise with own direction has uniformly distributed heat pattern than normal array. The heat distribution is observed which is obtained from specific absorption rate (SAR) and bio-heat equation and shows the adequate of the proposed applicator for regional hyperthermia treatment.","PeriodicalId":6341,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"94 1","pages":"358-361"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85216165","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These rectennas incorporate high efficiency, electrically small, metamaterial-inspired near field resonant parasitic antennas, and a Schottky diode that has a low built-in voltage, and a resistor as the load. For the low, 0.0 dBm (1.0 mW), input power level to the protractor-based rectennas, the measured rectifying efficiencies of the larger (ka = 0.808) and 25% smaller (ka = 0.604) protractor versions are, respectively, 78.0% at 1.5754 GHz and 67.9% at 1.55 GHz. Similarly, for the 0dBm input power to an S-inclusion-based rectenna (ka~0.611) that again is matched directly to the input impedance of the rectifying circuit, the simulated and measured rectifying efficiencies were, respectively, 75.7% and 79.6%. It will be demonstrated that the simulated and measured results are in good agreement in all cases.","PeriodicalId":6341,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"14 1","pages":"193-196"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84369002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The antenna is optimized for operation directly on human skin in the frequency range from 1 to 9 GHz. A sector-like slot is applied to the design to enhance the bandwidth regarding the current distribution. The near-field performance of the antenna is characterized and verified by the measurements. Benefiting from a symmetrical structure and differential feeding technique the antenna owns a very stable radiation behavior in the whole frequency range and a very high front-to-back ratio which would improve the stroke detection capability of the brain imaging system with robust performance.","PeriodicalId":6341,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"201-204"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76955723","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The number of EM systems per platform is large and growing, which places severe restrictions on system size, weight, and power. The ever-increasing demand for bandwidth and interoperability will only make these systems more complex, driving the need for innovative basic research on multifunctional systems and antennas. This paper will provide an overview of the structure and function of the U.S. Army science and technology enterprise, describe requirements and applications for Army antennas and the EM environment in which they operate, and suggest promising areas for future research.","PeriodicalId":6341,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"35 1","pages":"12-15"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77099092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents experimental investigations and comparison of ultra wideband antenna diversity technique for on-body and off-body radio propagation channels. Diversity gain (DG) is calculated for five different channels namely: Access point (AP)/belt-to-head, AP/belt-to-chest, AP/belt-to-wrist, AP/belt-to-ankle and AP/belt-to-back with the subject performing realistic movements of different nature in an indoor environment. Results showed that almost 50% improvement in DG is obtained for off-body case as compared to on-body case, which shows the usefulness of UWB off-body diversity for body centric wireless communications.","PeriodicalId":6341,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"209-212"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90785025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such a device, which consists of two dual-band Wilkinson power dividers (working at 2GHz and 5GHz) and two 90° dual-band microstrip lines (providing 180° phase difference at two working frequencies), is very sensitive for identifying dielectric material changes. Moreover, by operating at two frequencies simultaneously, it can improve the measurement stability/robustness. Compared with the recently reported RF microfluidic sensor [Yang et al, Lab Chip, 10, 553, (2010)], the proposed device features enhanced measurement stability with the same level of measurement sensitivity (-80dB cancellation level).","PeriodicalId":6341,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"17 1","pages":"36-39"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90830162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
