By considering the nature of services that will be broadcast, systems have to work at high data rates. These rates can be reached by the use of coding schemes working at high spectral efficiencies and low complexity. In this paper, we present comparisons between trellis coded modulation, bit-interleaved coded modulation and block coded modulation over a correlated Rayleigh fading channel. The 16-QAM modulation is used in order to find a compromise between spectral efficiency and complexity. The results are shown as a function of the interleaving depth versus the channel coherence time and in terms of measured data flow, giving a rough approximation about the decoding complexity.","PeriodicalId":58934,"journal":{"name":"教育传播与技术","volume":"57 1","pages":"69-74"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84764744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mobility involves the update of the location information of the mobile user, as well as the redirection of the dataflow. Especially the latter is very challenging for network developers. Answers to this problem have been proposed for connection oriented networks, but, for connectionless networks, there is still no satisfying proposal. Hence this has consequences on architectural options for future networks in general, taking the impact of mobility into consideration.","PeriodicalId":58934,"journal":{"name":"教育传播与技术","volume":"10 1","pages":"28-33"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81903615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data-transmission with near-optimal bit error rates at low signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) can be achieved by applying turbo codes. However, the decoding of turbo codes is done in an iterative way and the hardware implementation of a turbo decoder for high bit rates is challenging. This is partly due to the inherent decoding latency of the maximum-a-posteriori (MAP)-algorithm, which is the key building block of the decoder. Moreover, power consumption in the MAP-algorithm turns out to be a problem at high data rates. An analysis of power consumption in the MAP-algorithm has indicated a bottleneck in memory accesses. Therefore, the data transfer and storage exploration (DTSE) methodology, developed at IMEC, has been applied. This paper extensively describes some DTSE-optimizations for the MAP-algorithm in the context of the entire methodology. Applying the DTSE-methodology has allowed the required data rates for wireless digital communications to be reached. Moreover, it has also resulted in reduced power consumption and lower latency.","PeriodicalId":58934,"journal":{"name":"教育传播与技术","volume":"22 1","pages":"94-102"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79911579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
