The analytical and simulation methods applied have been based on inadequate models. The paper shows the basic inadequacy in the models proposed usually for optical networks, applying so called open system and network approach. The authors propose the approach needed, in particular, for the systems developed in rather poorly countries where the hardware available for the designers was obsolete in comparison to that available in well developed countries. The paper describes some experience in ICT system modeling and the network modeling tool and technique worked out.","PeriodicalId":57196,"journal":{"name":"光通信研究","volume":"6 1","pages":"49-54"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90240749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, to sustain the increased bandwidth demand of emerging applications in the access section of the network, new hybrid PON solutions employing WDM/TDM are being investigated. Compared with classics PON, the architecture of WDM/TDM-PONs requires more transceivers/receivers, hence they are expected to be more energy hungry than classical PONs. In this paper, we focus on the power consumption minimization in WDM/TDM-PONs and we propose an energy-efficient mechanism based on Dynamic Bandwidth and Wavelength Allocation whose objective is to switch off, whenever possible, the unnecessary receivers for upstream traffic at the Optical Line Terminal (OLT). Our proposed energy saving mechanism is able to decrease energy consumption at the OLT of about 30%, while maintaining the penalty introduced in terms of channel utilization and packet delay within an acceptable range. Detailed implementation of the proposed algorithm is presented, and simulation results are reported to quantify energy savings and effects on network performance on different network scenarios.","PeriodicalId":57196,"journal":{"name":"光通信研究","volume":"92 1","pages":"225-232"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85682813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method has lower peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) when compared to Asymmetrically-Clipped Optical OFDM (ACO-OFDM). It was shown that its receiver utilizes only 50% of the signal power, while the other 50% is discarded. A new receiving method, based on an estimator which utilizes the discarded portion of the signal, is proposed in this paper, to generate an improved estimator for the transmitted signal. It is shown both theoretically and numerically that the new approach improves the receiver performance of the system by up to 3dB, achieving the efficiency of the latest ACO-OFDM methods, while preserving the PAPR advantage. With this approach, both the transmitter and the modulated signal are not changed while the additional receiver computational complexity is negligible.","PeriodicalId":57196,"journal":{"name":"光通信研究","volume":"31 1","pages":"163-170"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75360034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in these connections the distortion effects are higher than in a singlemode fiber system. These effects can be compensated by a suitable optical receiver. In this paper an improved receiver structure is investigated for Radio over Multimode fiber systems. N-QAM radio signal transmission is simulated and measured on multimode fiber connections. Several improved compensating reception methods are compared with simple detection. From the different improved methods and installations an optimum solution is chosen for Radio over Multimode Fiber systems.","PeriodicalId":57196,"journal":{"name":"光通信研究","volume":"48 1","pages":"23-26"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1109/NOC-OCI.2013.6582863","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72522779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is based on the Semiconductor Laser Amplifier Loop Mirror (SLALOM) configuration exploiting the nonlinearities of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) in cross-switching regime. The proof-of-principle is established using 40-ps RZ control pulses at 2.5 GHz in the C-band. It outputs serially encoded, quantized and amplified optical RZ bits. Computer simulations of the proposed o-Encoder have shown promising results. The proposed device is rather compact, potentially optically integrable and requires much less input optical power (by several orders of magnitude) than other photonic-encoders and can also naturally convert wavelengths in the optical domain.","PeriodicalId":57196,"journal":{"name":"光通信研究","volume":"63 1","pages":"35-42"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82073642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we derive both exact and approximate expressions for the average symbol-error rate (SER) of free-space optics systems adopting multipulse PPM (MPPM) technique in gamma-gamma channels. Our expressions are then verified by getting the same results using lognormal and exponential channel expressions where lognormal and exponential distributions are valid only for weak and strong turbulence, respectively. As the computation of the exact expression is time consuming, we get an approximate expression based on Gauss-Laguerre quadrature. Both expressions produce almost the same results. Finally, we make a comparison between the average SER performance of MPPM and PPM assuming equal average energy per bit and equal data rate. We found that the performance of MPPM is better than that of PPM in case of weak turbulence but at strong turbulence both MPPM and PPM have nearly the same performance.","PeriodicalId":57196,"journal":{"name":"光通信研究","volume":"32 1","pages":"93-98"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85584721","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
