In other words, it tries to explore how DeLillo’s novel represents various aspects of postcolonial oppression. DeLillo’s Falling Man shows the effect of 9/11 attacks on some people who survived after the disaster. In the novel, he gives misrepresentation of the Orientals in general, and Oriental Muslims in particular. In fact, since the 9/11 attacks, most of literature written in English has again revived the Orientalists' discourse which has reinforced colonialist ideology and has created postcolonial discourse. Thus, this paper aims to remove the negative stereotyped representations of Orientals in DeLillo’s Falling Man.","PeriodicalId":56369,"journal":{"name":"BeniSuef University Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences","volume":"130 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79615118","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper follows a spatio-temporal analysis as a method of research. Within the framework of a geocritical approach, the paper investigates such elements as geographical boundaries, space, place, movement, transgressivity and national identity. The paper argues that a spatial perspective offers important insights into an Indian/American society struggling with the tensions of immigration, diaspora, nostalgia, cultural clash, search for identity, and acculturation. Such elements are brought together through the psychological journey motif, a widespread spatial schema, which dominates the course of this novel. The paper argues that though the place of origin undergoes many physical changes, it still bears the same nostalgic and traumatic effect on the main characters since it encapsulates their history and their national identity. Not only does place perform a significant function for each character, but it also connects their past with their present through retelling the story of the British colonization of the Indian nation. The paper illustrates the characters’ disillusion in escaping India for America since all their cultural, national, spatial, religious and social identity are repressed in their subconscious waiting to be released upon seeing their Lowland again. Political cartoons represent an influential means of expression as they use an accessible means of visual communication and represent current political events in an ideologically shaped way. They are multilayered, with a variety of verbal and non-verbal elements, and they use humor to express the viewpoints in a light manner and avoid censorship. This study analyzes a corpus of twenty cartoons published in Al-Ahram weekly newspaper from January through December 2018. Based on a multimodal discourse analysis, the study finds that political cartoons reflect major global political issues as well as people’s reactions towards them. This is achieved by using various means such as represented participants, objects and settings. It is recommended that further studies tracking political cartoons under different circumstances be applied.","PeriodicalId":56369,"journal":{"name":"BeniSuef University Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences","volume":"8 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74272356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it remains understudied in the academic field of Spanish literary criticism. On the other hand, most of the studies carried out on this literature focus on prose, and very few studies analyze poetry or theater. For this reason, it is necessary to explore the status and characteristics of Equatoguinean theatre, represented by one of its most prominent figures, Juan Tomás Ávila Laurel. This article aims to study the ethical lines of the theater in Equatorial Guinea through two of Tomás Ávila's theatrical works: Imperfect Past (1991) and Domestic Men (1993). In his works, the author makes a just fictionalization of the daily reality of his country. Whatever the literary genre and the plot, his works are always charged with social criticism with a thread of irony.
