The pathological process increases the risk and worsens the course of the disorder in chronic low-grade inflammation. Nutrition affects the pro-/anti-inflammatory state, and an anti-inflammatory diet is a proposed form supporting the therapy of inflammatory diseases. The review aimed to determine the importance of an anti-inflammatory diet in supporting the treatment of mood disorders.\u0000\u0000Materials and methods: The available literature was reviewed by searching the PubMed and Google Scholar databases using the following keywords: nutritional psychiatry, depression, anti-inflammatory diet from the inception to 10th February 2023. We characterized the anti-inflammatory diet, potential mechanisms of action, the epidemiological and intervention studies conducted so far focusing on this topic, as well as barriers to implementation and potentially harmful effects of its implementation.\u0000\u0000Results: Observational studies show a link between the anti-inflammatory potential of diet and a lower risk of developing mood disorders. The pro-inflammatory profile of the diet is associated with higher severity of depressive symptoms. On the other hand, an anti-inflammatory diet has a beneficial effect on the brain-gut axis and the intestinal microbiota, which are involved in the development of depressive disorders.\u0000\u0000Conclusions: It is necessary to increase clinical practitioners' and patients' knowledge of the impact of nutrition on mental health. Our team developed recommendations for an anti-inflammatory diet adapted to Polish conditions based on the guidelines. In the case of patients' barriers to implementation, encouraging partial implementation of the recommendations is advised.

The following tools were used to measure the variables: Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), FCV-19S Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S), Secondary Traumatic Stress Scale (STSS), Personal Inquiry, Assessment of working conditions during a pandemic.\u0000Discussion: It has been shown that 9.8% of psychotherapists working during the pandemic experienced high or very high-intensity of symptoms of Secondary Traumatic Stress. The predictors of STS turned out to be: task-induced stress during the pandemic, emotion-focused stress-coping style, and fear of COVID-19. The proposed model of moderated moderation, which assumes that COVID-19 anxiety that intensifies the emotional style of coping with stress in specialists, has an influence on the relationship between occupational tasks stress during a pandemic and the severity of symptoms of Secondary Traumatic Stress, has not been confirmed. The proteins, that exert a protective effect on neurons and are researched concerning schizophrenia pathogenesis, include the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), nerve growth factor (NGF), neurotrophin 3 (NT3), and glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF). This review aims to discuss the role of neuroprotective factors in the development of schizophrenia and their relevance in clinical trials.\u0000Material and methods: This review was performed by search of the PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct databases from December 25th, 2022, through January 31st, 2023, using keywords: ‘schizophrenia’, ‘schizophrenia pathogenesis’, ‘neuroprotection’, ‘neurodegeneration’, ‘BDNF’, ‘NGF’, ‘NT3’, and ‘GDNF’. We considered original research papers and systematic reviews published in English or Polish. Additionally, clinical trials, which included the assessment of neuroprotective factors’ levels in schizophrenia as outcome measures, were searched for on clinicaltrials.gov.\u0000Results: Lower levels of serum BDNF have been linked to cognitive impairment in schizophrenia. In clinical trials, the assessment of serum BDNF is used as a clinical outcome measure for novel schizophrenia therapies. Schizophrenia has also been associated with reduced peripheral NGF levels. During remission, lower NGF levels correlate with higher severity of negative symptoms. Decreased NT3 and GDNF levels can also be seen, but literature reports are inconsistent.\u0000Conclusions: Neuroprotective factors are most likely related to the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. The aims of the study were to assess the profiles of illness cognitive appraisals in individuals with type 2 diabetes, and to recognize the relationships between illness cognitive appraisals and both expectations towards doctors and readiness to health-related behaviours.\u0000Materials and methods: A total number of 99 participants with type 2 diabetes were divided into short- and long-standing diagnosis sub-groups. Illness-Related Appraisals Scale, The Patient Requests Form, Health-Related Behavior Inventory were administered.\u0000Results: The comparison of most representative profiles showed significant differences between sub-groups in perceiving the illness as threat, benefit, obstacle/loss. In both sub-groups, treating the illness as a benefit determined patient’s expectations of emotional support from doctors. In patients with long-standing diagnosis also threat, value, obstacle/loss and harm impact significantly on the patients’ expectations towards doctors. Treating the illness as a challenge explained about 24% of variability of eating habits and 29% of preventive behaviours.\u0000Conclusions: Participants with long-standing diagnosis treat their illness as threatening and disturbing. In these patients many dimensions of cognitive appraisal are related to seeking information about the illness and to a need of emotional support from doctors. On the contrary, in individuals with short-standing diagnosis, only perceiving their illness as a benefit is associated with the expectation towards their doctors to provide emotional support and explanation of the illness. Our study proved that perceiving the long-lasting illness as a challenge contributes to readiness to follow health-related behaviours.\u0000Keywords: type 2 diabetes, health-related behaviour, attitude to illness

A relatively new category of disorders, studied more thoroughly for only a few years, is the occurrence of symptoms of both obstructive sleep apnea and insomnia in one patient and treating it as a different disease entity. This phenomenon is increasingly referred to as COMISA (Co-morbid insomnia and sleep apnea).\u0000The aim of this paper is to: 1) draw attention to this interesting issue, 2) show treatment differences of COMISA from isolated insomnia or obstructive sleep apnea and to help choose better therapy by general practitioners, pulmonologists, and psychiatrists for these patients.\u0000Materials and methods: The literature review was based on a search of articles in Medline, PubMed, and Google Scholar from 2012 to 2023 using the keywords: obstructive sleep apnea; insomnia; cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia; continuous positive airway pressure; COMISA. The analysis included original studies, meta-analyses, and review articles.\u0000Discussion: The prevalence of both diseases in patients is importantly higher than in the general population. Many patients with COMISA or OSA alone remain undiagnosed. The most common examination of OSA requires a hospital stay to perform polysomnography or polygraphy (2). A lot of people are not willing to go through with the diagnostic process.\u0000Conclusions: It is important that during the standard medical history, doctors take into account the possibility of co-occurrence of these diseases, due to the high risk of not diagnosing them on time.\u0000\u0000Keywords: Obstructive sleep apnea, Insomnia, Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, Continuous positive airway pressure, COMISA

The most common form is video consultation. We distinguish between synchronous and asynchronous telepsychiatry. This study aims to show the benefits of using telepsychiatry services, the challenges it poses to users, and to evaluate its use against traditional therapy.\u0000Materials and methods: A review of literature from 1956-2023 in EMBASE, OpenKnowledge and PubMed databases was conducted. Keywords used were: telepsychiatry, teletherapy, and digital psychiatry. Ninety-eight articles were included.\u0000Discussion: Telepsychiatry is an opportunity for regions affected by medical staff shortages. It bypasses cultural barriers, the problem of traveling and reduces the cost of medical point-of-service. Telepsychiatry is an opportunity for patients who do not use psychiatrists due to discrimination in a conservative society. Groups that may find it challenging include the elderly, the blind, and the deaf. Creating a healthy therapeutic alliance through a screen can be impossible, making it difficult to achieve successful therapy. A barrier to developing telepsychiatry is the need for more guidelines for dealing with medical errors.\u0000Conclusions: Telemedicine can help in accessing specialized care regardless of location. Telepsychiatry provides a safe and anonymous environment for patients reluctant to receive inpatient therapy. The effectiveness of online therapy is primarily debated. Telepsychiatry should be limited to follow-up consultations and well-known patients - it is a form of complementing the diagnosis and treatment process. The association of dry eye syndrome with depressive disorders has been particularly well documented. In the context of keratoconus patients group, data on similar relationships are inconclusive. Attempts have also been made to assess the personality of patients suffering from keratoconus, and the first study in this area was produced as early as 1976. Material and methods: For the literature review, full-text medical databases, such as PubMed and Embase, were searched for articles on the association of keratoconus with depressive-anxiety disorder and personality disorder. Articles published within the last 30 years were considered. Results: The personality of patients with keratoconus has been a research issue for many years, but research to date has not clearly defined what personality traits characterise this particular group of patients. Research into the relationship between keratoconus and depressive-anxiety disorders has only recently been conducted, and the results - although inconclusive - suggest a co-occurrence of depressive symptoms with keratoconus. A different and interesting field for further research is the association of keratoconus with schizophrenia, as these diseases may have a common background.
